Question about 2000 Dodge Intrepid
Engine revs when putting car in park, usually to 2 at least 2x ....seems to be doing in even while car is in drive, sitting idle at a stop light. it will go to 1...
The first thing I would suspect, would be the MAP (manifold absolute pressure) sensor. They can be quite expensive so, have a tech get a computer reading from your engine to pinpoint the problem. You can also buy a reader and do it yourself if you plan to keep the car for a while.

i would try first to replace your fuel filter. this is an easy and cost effective way to solve this problem. the fuel filter should be located on the drivers side in the frame rail near the rear tire

SOURCE: Fuel injectors stuck wide open?
most likely it is an intake leak somewhere after the throttle body. check the intake manifold where it bolts to the head and see if you can find carbon expulsion around the intake channels of all 4 cylinders. if you do see then most likely the gasket is leaking. What i do is to take a can of throttle body cleaner and give little squirts around where the gaskets are on all intake manifold areas especially where it attaches to the cylinder head. Be carefull not to spray onto the rubber parts of engine. You do this while the car is running and you listen very carefully for any changes in the way it sounds. If you do hear something change everytime you spray the cleaner then you most definitly have a leak. Change that gasket. I hope this helps. Oh i forgot to ask if you have any check engine lights on.

SOURCE: My intrepid dies while driving
It sounds (based on your description) like there is a Fuel problem:
1. Check the fuel pressure at the port on the Fuel Rail. Check especially when operating at higher RPM's than at idle or stop. At these levels there is enough gas being provided to keep the engine going. At higher RPM's the Pressure/Volume may not be enough causing the stalling.
2. When was the last time the Fuel Filter was changed? Change this and check operation before moving onto to #3.
3. The Fuel Pump. If the Fuel Pressure and Volume at the Fuel Port is falling at higher RPM's and the Fuel Filter did not help: It sounds like the Fuel Pump is failing. These will fail especially after they warm-up. This problem (losing power and dying) will happen more and more frequently and the Fuel Pump will eventually die all together.
You have to replace the Fuel Filter when you install a new Fuel Pump - it is part of the warranty.
4. The Fuel Injectors: If the Fuel Pressure/Volume at the Fuel Rail is fine, then it is not the Fuel Filter or the Fuel Pump. The problem is "downstream". It may be the electrical aspect of the Fuel Injectors or the mechanical side of the Fuel Injectors themselves. Check each Fuel Injector for correct voltage. If the voltage is correct - Pull and replace that corresponding Fuel Injector. I actually recommend: if you have to replace more that one Fuel Injector - go ahead and replace them all.
