Question about Cars & Trucks

1 Answer

My battery light stays on. The windscreen wipers, indicators and brake lights don't work but car runs fine. The alternator and battery comes up pretty much new on the volt metre and my fan belt has loads of wear left on it. Would it be a dirty earth somewhere? If so where are all the earth points on the car? I'm driving a 1997 Peugeot 106 1100cc. Thanks Luke.

The problem with your wipers and brake lights sounds like blown fuses, the battery light indicates low or no charge and will need to be tested for output and that should be 14 volts, if the alternator output voltage is correct there may be a diode s in the alternator that needs to be replaced or replace with a rebuilt alternator.

SOURCE: The ABS,Brake Light,Battery light go on and off sporadically while driving.Does this indicate an Alternator failure or a sensor/computer problem?

yes it's most likely a alternator problem, usually the internal diode bridge breaks causing all lights you mentioned to come on,if this happens at a idle open the hood and remove green connector on alt.if lights go out you've found the problem

SOURCE: peugeot 1007 windscreen washer water jets

Hi

It is usually the fuse. This blows very easily.(eg Ifyou operaten the washers when the fluid is frozen or partially frozen)

Look in your handbook. And in the fuse box in the engine compartment

The battery light and the brake light come on. This just started yesterday. We replaced the battery and front brakes two weeks ago. Is this just a glitch in the computer?

When you replaced the battery, did you have the alternator tested? The battery light indicates either the battery is not holding a charge or not receiving the proper power from the alternator to charge the battery.
The brake lights could be a glitch but it could also mean that you are low on brake fluid or you have air in the brake system. Suggest you at least check the fluid level in the master cylinder and bleed the brakes.

IF NOT ALTERNATOR FAULTY BUT CHECK ALTERNATOR BATTERY FEED AND VOLTAGE REGULATOR WIRES FOR LOOSE CONNECTION OR DAMAGED FRAYED WIRES. 2004 Audi A6 2.7T S-Type I have a battery and/or altinator issue. Last nite the battery indicator came on in the dash (not in the center display). The volt meter keept going lower until the radio quit...

doug hard688, It sounds like you have an alternator issue here. The volt meter monitors the output of the alternator. The battery indicator will come on when you have a bad or weak alternator. When this happens you are running on the power of the battery alone and this does not last long. As you state here the radio quit working and your lights probably got dimmer with time. As far as the other lights coming on, when some systems don't have enough power to run them the lights will come on indicating a problem. I wouldn't worry about them until you have your charging system checked. You can do this yourself if you have a volt meter. Start the vehicle and put the meter's red lead on the positive terminal of the battery and the black lead on the negative side. A properly charging alternator will be putting out 13.6 to 14.6 volts. A few tenths of a volt either way out of these specs is nothing to worry about. However, a variation really far from these specs indicates an alternator problem. Good luck with this.

Electrical power system service required.....ABS warning light, generator warning light, brake failure...car stalled and wont't restart

usually caused by failed generator. Fix the generator and other lights will also extinguish. The car should jump start, but will not stay running without a charged battery. Recommend removing the generator and take to parts store for testing. Would you like instructions for removing generator?

Brake and battery lights stay on

when both lights stay on with the car running it usually indicates an alternator that is not charging at an acceptable voltage level. check the battery voltage with the car running, if it is under 13.5V you should replace your alternator.

Electrical problem

From the sounds of it you are loosing power. You might have you battery tested. or the next time you get it running take it to the auto parts store and have them do a battery test and alternator test on your car. if that checks out to be good then let me know and we will go into another direction.
