Question about 1998 GMC Jimmy

Hard starting after sitting awhile

My 98 jimmy takes several cranks to get started after sitting overnight or longer. After it starts it seems to run fine. No hesitation or stalling. Installed new pump a year ago along with filter. Is it possible for the pressure or gas to leak down? Can hear pump running and shut off before trying to start. This can take up to 4-5 times. Then everything is wonderful. I have a 1999 with the same problem and I took the air intake apart(where the air filter is located) and the air filter is clean:and the car started. I think it may be a air intake sensor. I'm not sure. I need 2 ck the fuel pump pressure.

I have same problem with 1996 S10 V6. I am going to check my fuel pressure this weekend. Sometimes it won't start at all after sitting a few days. I can spray ether or put gas in top of TBI (remove air cleaner) and it will start right up. Runs fine after starts.

No sounds like after it gets hot one of the 5 is going out Cam or crank sensor or fuel pump or fuel rail pressure regulator or fuel pump solenoid take it to autozone for free code reading get back to me.

1996 GMC JIMMY, Hard starting after it has ran for awhile

could have a battery ground , check cables for corrosion.
could also be the starter or the solenoid.
you could also have a dead short in the battery itself, it will be ok if it sits but will give you fits for repeated starts

When it rains , the van just won't start. It cranks , but will not turn over. If it sits on level ground for awhile it seems to crank fine . My mechanic sprayed water over the engine & can't get it to...

Try turning the key on (but don't crank the engine) and wait about 2 minutes, then try and start the van. Anytime mine sits more than overnight, this is the only way it will start, otherwise runs fine.

Hope this helps.

I have a gmc 1500 5.7 1/2 ton truck after sitting overnight its hard starting, will crank over after several attemps will start. after running no starting problems. thanks

The check valve in the fuel pump may be bad, allowing the gasoline to return to the tank, causing excess cranking to get fuel back to the motor to start.

Hard but eventual start

Sounds like you may have a leaky injector which is both leaking fuel into one of the cylinders, and bleeding down any fuel rail pressure. Extra fuel makes it hard to start, loss of rail pressure takes a few seconds for fuel pump to build pressure back up.

Hard starting after sitting awhile

My 98 Jimmy runs on synthetic oil and starts well after sitting in cold weather. If the weather is the problem, try checking that. If it is warm... sorry no ideas.
