Question about 2003 Oldsmobile Alero

Driver Side Window

Hi there,

My window has been acting up for a few days and it looked like it might just be off the track. I had it down about half way yesterday and when I went to put it up, it went up very slow and then stopped all together and now won't close the rest of the way.

Could the window be off the track and is now causing the motor to not work OR do you think it is the motor alone that is not working?

Do you know how much it would cost to fix (approx)?

Thank you,
Melissa

My best guess is its the motor(but i'am not there either) if its motor the price i can give you is just a guestament and depends where you get it, motor around 50 to 60 bucks maybe more at auto parts store + labor to install 4 to 5 hours, costs more from dealer. i don't know the labor rates around your area, but where i'am at the dealer rates are around 75 to 85 bucks a hour, and 50 to 60 bucks hour at an independent shop. remember thies figures i gave you are just guesstaments. best thing to do, if thats your problem, is to get on the phone and call around and get the best deal you can.

I purchased a 98 chevy lumina sedan about 6 yrs ago. at that time, the driver's side power window would only go down about half way, at the half way mark, it would continue to "try" to go...

The widow regulator is bad. I believe yours is set up on a gear system. there is a long band that is plastic, of course that will lose teeth. The reason it stops. These are not hard to replace. remove the door panel. You will see the regulator and the track. You will need some tools and a drill to remove rivets. The track will pull out, then slide the new one in. you may have to remove the window to do this. Shop rate is 1 hour + materials.

My driver side window goes down fine but get stuck going up. is the motor bad or the lift regulator?

Its usually the window motor itself, quite often the window tracks and channels are dry and cause the motor to work harder and eventually tire out. If it attempts to go up then quits it usually pops the circuit breaker inside the window motor because its overworking and draws to many amps (pops breaker). It will attempt to work after a few seconds when circuit breaker cools and closes again. Apply some silicone based lube to the window tracks and channels, and try the window again. If it works you will eventually need a motor. The regulator usually displays binding condition in one specific spot when window going up or down, if its always the same spot it quits then it could be binding in the regulator.

My driver side window will not roll down properly. I stops about half way and seems to bend inward toward the car instead of going down further. I have taken the door panel off and can not tell exactly...

remove the door panel. it may have come off track. go to any auto parts store and buy a haynes manual for your specific car. they are based on a complete teardown of vehicle. this book will show how to remove door panel. they are about 20 to 25 dollars.

Window crank

I had the same problem. If you look at the outside of the door while cranking the window, look to see if the window is trying to go on the outside of the outer seal. If so, you will have to check to see if the window is loose on the tracks. On mine, the track frame had spread open. I repaired it and used graphite to lube the track.

Replace window regulator. It comes with the cables on it . Yours probably came off track and are tangled up.

Driver side window

This is caused by the window express down module, if you quickly push the window switch down a few times does this correct the issue? If not have the express down module replaced.
