Question about 2001 Chevrolet Venture

1 Answer

Over haeting first i installed a new water pump and a new thermastat. Then 3 days later the same thing happens,it starts by blowing cold air and the gage shows it is overheating, and when i check it there is about a gallon of antifreeze gone. Now you are suppose to use dellron "the orange stuff" and when i went to the autoparts store they told me it was ok to put the "full strength"in,so i did.Now could that be any of my problem or does it sound more like a head gasket. And if it is the head is there a easy way to check compression. Also there is no sighn of antifreeze in the oil or coming out the exuast pipe thanks

Thermastat location and replacement

It could be located near the water jacket at the intake manifold or possibly close to the water pump. Also it may be a separate housing where the return hose from the radiator meets the engine block.

My heater only blows hot when I am running on the high way. When it is parked and idleing it blows cold air. The temperature gauge never gets above 240, so that rules out a stuck thermastat. What could be...

I am willing to bet money that your WATER PUMP IMPELLER is Corroded and Eaten away to nearly Nothing. If you believe your Thermostat is working properly then I would expect the Water Pump.

I had this same thing happen to one of my Customer's who had a 2002-2003 V-8 and kept the "DEXCOOL" in their car....

If you are running Dexcool, convert it over to the GREEN....

This is a COMMON sign of a Blown Head Gasket. You will not have an oil leak from it on this Car and it will Overheat VERY Rapidly. You could also be correct on the Water Pump Problem, But, It is hard to change out especially since you just put it back together.
