Sounds like you have some EGR ports clogged up, remove the intake and look at the egr ports all but
#1 cyl port will probably be at least partially clogged, hope this helps

SOURCE: my truck idling low and spitting gas out exhaust

Hello Charles...I don't know what engine package you have in your ranger the 3.0 or 4.0 litre, but regardless, a diagnostic scan needs to be performed to determine the cause of the problems. Sounds like the Electronic Engine Control (EEC-IV) has stored hard codes. A self test can be performed where Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) are transmitted on the Self Test Output (STO) wire located on the vehicle self test connector. The codes are in the form of timed pulses, and are read by the technician on a scan tool or the CHECK ENGINE light. With the information recieved the proper repairs needed to correct the problem can be determined, other wise you are just guessing.
Good Luck...i hope this helps and will fixya up.

I had a similar problem that turned out to be dirt contaminated gasoline. The "fix" was always to replace the fuel filter but it would not stay fixed. In particular, each time I started having problems it was after I let the gas tank level get low.

What I did that you can consider was:
 1. But a new fuel filter.
 2. Get a 5 gallon gas can.filled with fresh gas.
 3. Get some cheap gasoline proof container (or several containers) for waste gasoline.
 4. Make a "vacuum cleaner" out of an electric in-line low pressure gas pump, some low pressure gas hose, and a couple of pieces of copper tube, 20 ft of two conductor wire, and two alligator clips. It connects hydraulically copper tube to suck out the gas tank, fuel hose, pump, fuel hose, copper tube to go into the gas can. The wire and clips are to hook the fuel pump to your car battery.
 5. Drive the car until the fuel level is low.
 6. Remove the fuel pump module.
 7. Vacuum the gas tank into the waste gas container through the opening left by the fuel module. Try to get the dirt off the bottom.
 8. When you have vacuumed all you can get, stop awhile and let the dirt settle in the waste container.
 9. Vacuum the gasoline from the waste container back into the gas tank. Vacuum high in the container so the dirt stays in the waste. Try to wash any dirt in the gas tank to below the fuel module opening.
 10. Stop a while and let the dirt settle.
 11. Repeat vacuuming and washing as many times as needed to get the tank clean and empty.
 12. Inspect the tank interior with a mirror and flashlight looking for rust, dirt, etc.
 13. Replace the fuel module.
 14. Install the new fuel filter.
 15. Pour in the new gasoline.
And hopefully you are good to go.

P0191 error

Have you considered that either your fuel pickup strainer in the gas tank may be clogged with debris? I've had this problem in the past with larger Fords, usually associated with the use of ethanol fuels, which cause moisture to condense in the gas tank and cause corrosion which eventually clogs the pickup strainer..

2002 escape 3.0 idle fluctuates and misfires when driving

No such thing as a tune-up

All you did was replace spark plugs which should be
done every 3 years

Oxygen Sensors get replaced at 100,000 miles which you
also did

You most likely have an intake gasket leak, smoke test
the entire Evap System & Engine

You also are have bad igniton coils

I have a 2004 ford escape. i just started it and it semmed to be sputtering and a little shaky then the emissions light came on. what is the problem?

many times if the car was parked the last time overheated and also low on fuel the fuel can boil in the fuel rail and the lines the resultigair pockets before the fuel pump picks up mkes the car miss( no fuel or not enough to a few cyclinders or even the injectors leaked a little after it was shut off. both ways it'll miss when started back. It's possible you live in an area that shifts gas from winter to summer and back the winter gas in hot tempertures will do this. The check engine light can be reset with a scanner. Codes po420 or other mixture codes may appear. ( happens alot this time of year as the fuel switch over to winter gas is happening. as soon as your car ( tunes to the new forulation ) It might not do it again. The winter gas works well in cooler days but it does what you pointed out on hot days.

Is the fan belt tight? If so using an amp. meter, start engine & check by putting leads on neg. & pos. of battery. Reading should be higher than 13.2 if lower replace alternator. Good luck!

2003 Ford Escape won't keep running

2 solutions: first, ignition control module is getting hot and shutting car down. 2nd; you didn't mention your dash(service soon) lights were on.

You said the fuel filter was pretty clogged up. It's sounds like a bad case of EGS(ethanol gas syndrome). The ethanol;being a corn deritive;acts like corn liquor(which is what is is), and turns the fuel to goop, and adds large amounts of water through out all the systems.

It clogs up the fuel lines, the injectors, and ruins fuel pumps. It also puts heavy carbon on egr valves, int. and exh. valves, and can ruin oxy sensors, and catalytic converters.

Let's try the cheapest way first:Buy a can of SEAFOAM and Berkline 2+2 at your parts store. Take out the oxy sensor(s) and clean the ends using the 2+2 and re-install.
Then change out the fuel filter again. Pour the SF into a tank of PREMIUM(only) gas. Change the pcv valve. Then start vehicle and let idle for 3-5 min(even if you have to rev it up to do it to get the SF flowing through the system), and then drive it 10 hard miles.

Replace that fuel filter, and then let it idle some more. Your car sounds like it is really messed up bad. Unless you take it to a garage that has a fuel system cleaner machine, this is the best way to do it.

After this, add SF every 3-5000 miles to your tank. It will prevent this from happening again. Also; to be on the safe side. Have a PSI check on your fuel pump. This goop could have burnt it up. I hope this helps.

Emmision light came on two weeks ago. in that

It could be a fuel filter problem or pump problem, BUT with out a scanner to get the DTC codes, you can end up putting alot of parts on and not fixing the problem....Try the basic service repairs (filters) and then get it diagn.if it persist....GL..
