2000 VW Beetle, started having trouble accelerating between 30-40 miles per hour. Replaced spark plugs, plug wires, fuel filter, air filter and intake hose before putting in the shop. Mechanic stated #1, #2 misfire and proceeded to change fuel pump and coil pack. $800 later still doing the same thing. Curious if anyone has a clue as to what the problem may be.

SOURCE: 98 vw beetle misfiring after rain. New plugs, coil cas cracks????

Hi, Yes it certainly could be especially if water gets in. You should also check the distributor cap. The misfire sounds like an arcing problem so it would have to be one of those two things since you changed the rest. Good Luck!

Did you swap out your distributor cap and rotor? Try that first - it's not going to be the cat. You may be losing compression in cylinder #1 one... Hope its the cap/rotor...

SOURCE: MISFIRING ON CYLINDER 1 VW POLO 1.4 3CYLINDER

I have changed a few cylinder heads under warranty for this type of problem. The exhaust valve guides wear, this causes the exhaust valve to seat badly, giving low compression. if one cylinder compresion reading is more than about 50 psi below the others, then this warrants head removal. It is quite a job, due to the fact that the camshft id chain driven. If you are up for it then once the head is removed, poor liquid into the exhaust ports and see if it leaks out through any of the exhaust valves.

SOURCE: No spark from coil pack

The most common reasons for them going out are not using dielectric grease properly when installing, and from washing your engine.

I believe this was a huge issue with Volkswagen vehicles

What do you all need for a tune up

You need spark plugs, and wires(or boots) and fuel filter, and air filter, and a pcv valve wouldn`t hurt either.

Somtimes its hard to srart and sluggisg 2000 maxima

If U haven't replaced the spark plug with that many miles I would start there. If that doesn't help U may have a bad coil pack with every spark plug has one, its what U first see when going to replace your plugs on top of manifold. Or it may be the fuel filter/sending unit.

Hope this is helpful

2000 vw passat 1.8t wont start

First make sure you do a basic tune-up on the car i.e. replacing spark plug wires, spark plugs, distributor cap, rotor button, etc. Secondly, the plugs are probably just wet from fuel from not starting. The low oil pressure light coming on is normal when trying to start the car. Make sure to check for codes too and don't press the accelerator when starting the car, otherwise it will flood the engine.
