Check the switches on the doors. the light goes out when you close the doors. one of these switches might have a short.

I have a 2001 Toyota Tacoma and I am having issues with the dome light. When the truck is running, the dome light functions as it should. But when the key is turned off, the dome light gets stuck on,

CHECK THE DIMMER SWITCH THAT CONTROLS DASH BRIGHTNESS. THIS OFTEN CONTROLS DOME LIGHT. ALSO MAKE SURE (IF PRESENT) THE MANUAL DOME LIGHT SWITCH IS FUNCTIONING

Why wont interior lights will not turn off on toyota highlander

If your interior lights are not turning off, you probably have the override switch turned on. This is located in front headliner area and has a light icon on it. This switch forces the interior lights on, even when all of your doors are shut, or if you are driving.

Interior lights wont turn off. Door switchs are not stuck. I can activate all my door switchs and hear the mane switch in the rear click on and off. Where is this other swich?

your car has door switches in the door with a specific resistance. if you cannot shut off the lights with the dimmer switch your rheostat in the light switch is a culprit. some luxury models dont allow you to shut off the dome from the light switch. i would check the internal door switches first. hard to find. just follow two wires inside the door next to the door mechanism.
The switches get dirty and show a resistance to shut off the interior light.

The inside lights are staying on

Assuming you already checked every door, dome light and trunk to be firmly closed, I would inspect each doors light switch to be working properly. They are located on the inside of the door jamb and look like small buttons. They tell the car to turn the dome lights out when the doors are all shut. If the light still does turn off, i would disconnect the neg. battery cable, and unscrew or pop out the particular light bulb until i could get more answers. Doing so will insure that light wont drain your battery while you find a solution.

The interior lights and running board lights stay

Check your DOME light switch. There are 3 positions. Completely OFF even with doors open, ON with doors shut so you can read while parked, NORMAL for the lights to come on only when the doors are open.

Your headlight switch will also turn everything ON inside when it is turned completely to one side. Just twist this switch a little towards center if this is on.

Interior lights wont shut off

sounds like you have a short in 1 of your door switches one by one open doors one at a time find the pin switch and remove with a wrench 1 by one push the switch in and break contact or unplug the switch if light goes out then it's time to get a new pin or just leave it disconected and no more lights from that door
btw do if there was no one in the car with you and you can remember what door was closed last b4 this started i might be easy to find work backwards

Dome lights

You don't have the dome switch in the on postion do you? If not, the headlight/dome switch may be the problem. It's very seldom that the door pressure switch is the cause of this problem.
