Where starter lacated

Starter is located at rear of the engine where the transmission is located. It is normally held on with 2 or 3 bolts depending on the model. To remove it you must be underneath on jack stands or on a rack.

Made a small thump under my feet when i tried

this sounds like the starter grenaded. Look under the vehicle for the starter and if the solenoid itself had come apart, it would act like a dead battery. Let me know what you find.
