SOURCE: I have a code P1447

My experience with my own 97 Pathfinder was that the EVAP canister internally ruptured, spreading charcoal pellets throughout connected portions of the vacuum system.

The tech replaced the EVAP canister and blew lines out with compressed air, but the P1447 code came back.

A few weeks later I had the tech check why the P1447 code came back, and he determined that the EVAP Canister Purge Volume Control Solenoid Valve had failed, as it did not pass certain resistance measurement tests. He replaced the valve, $288 + labor, blew a few remaining carbon bits out, and the problem seems to be fixed.

I kind of choked at the $288 price though, and took the part home. Two screws to pop it open. Turns out it was filled (surprise) with pulverized charcoal dust and would not operate.

The valve is a little rotating magnet that turns and screws a lipstick-style plunger up and down. I tapped out all the carbon and then started turning the bearings, which were crunchy sounding. However, the carbon eventually gave way to the bearings and they're spinning just fine now. I haven't tested the part, but from the simplicity of it, I have no doubt it would get me down the road many more miles.

I GOT A 1998 SILVERADO 4X4 ENGINE LIGHT ON CODE P0446

Well code 446 is for a problem with the EVAP system which vents fumes from the gas tank to the vapor canister.
You would need to check the system using a test chart for that code.
You can look online for the test procedure and the equipment required.

Continuous Memory Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) P0446 or P1450 indicates that Self-Test has detected the Evaporative Emission Control System has excessive fuel tank vacuum. Also, a DTC P0446 indicates a vent control malfunction.

Possible causes:

EVAP canister purge outlet tube (EVAP canister purge valve to EVAP canister) blockages or kinks.

EVAP canister tube (fuel tank to EVAP canister) blockages or kinks.

Fuel vapor elbow on EVAP canister contaminated.

Restricted EVAP canister.

Canister vent (CV) solenoid stuck closed (partially or fully).

Plugged or contaminated CV solenoid filter.

EVAP canister purge valve stuck open.

Fuel filler cap stuck closed (no vacuum relief).

VREF circuit open in fuel tank pressure (FTP) sensor.

Damaged FTP sensor. (fuel tank pressure)

Check for kinks or bends in the fuel vapor hoses/tubes (EVAP canister purge outlet tube and EVAP canister tube).

Visually inspect EVAP canister inlet port, CV solenoid filter and canister vent hose assembly for contamination or debris.

Check CV solenoid filter for blockage or contamination.

The common things I've seen are are mud in the canister and the canister vent solenoid being shot or the wiring to the canister vent solenoid being torn off. The resistance of the solenoid should be 48-65 ohms..
Pick up a Chiltons book and will give you a diagram of where exactly you find the canister. They are like $15 at any auto store. Good luck

P0449 and P0455 error code 2008 2wd gmc envoy 30,203 miles

P0449 - Evaporative Emission Control System Vent Valve/Solenoid Circuit Malfunction

P0455 - Evaporative Emission Control System Leak Detected (no purge flow or large leak)

Both are refer at EVAP system; other EVAP DTCs: P0440 - P0441 - P0442 - P0443 - P0446 - P0453 - P0455 - P0456

This indicates a fuel vapor leak or lack of purge flow in the EVAP control system. It means a large leak has been detected. The (EVAP) emission control system prevents the escape of fuel vapors from a vehicle's fuel system. Fuel vapors are routed by hoses to a charcoal canister for storage. Later, when the engine is running a purge control valve opens allowing intake vacuum to siphon the fuel vapors into the engine.

Symptoms: You likely won't notice any drivability problems.
Causes: most likely means one or more of the following has happened:
A loose or improperly affixed gas cap
A non-conforming gas cap (i.e. not factory/original brand)
Other leak or damaged piece in EVAP system

Possible Solutions: the most common repair is to:
Remove and reinstall the gas cap, clear the codes, and drive for a day and see if the codes come back.
Otherwise, replace the gas cap, and/or
Inspect the EVAP system for cuts/holes in tubes/hoses (you may hear a vacuum noise or smell fuel), repair if necessary

Hope helps.

Evaporative Emmission System Malfuction----p0446

Possible leaks, clogs, malfunctioning VSVs (vacuum switching valves), and faulty Evap charcoal canister. This system is designed to remove harmful vapors in the fuel system and preventing these vapors to enter the atmosphere, regulate fuel pressure, by sending it into the combustion chamber to be burnt.

Diagnostics for P0446:
1. Inspect vacuum hoses and pipes
between EVAP (Purge) VSV and
Charcoal Canister for leaks.
2. Replace Vapor Pressure VSV and
Canister.

Hopefully this helps

Check engine light on,results in code P0446-fuel emission cotrol

Well it could be as simple as a new gas cap, or clean seal on it & tighten again. There are a few other items in the system too, but one common one is the vapor canister gets plugged up with dust & dirt.

99 Camry, P0441 & P0446 codes

A. Diagnostics for PO441:

1. Remove Vacuum Hoses between EVAP VSV and Charcoal Canister and discard.
2. If there is a metal vapor pipe between EVAP VSV and Charcoal Canister, clean inside of vapor
pipe
3. Replace EVAP VSV and Charcoal Canister assembly with new parts.
4. Install new vacuum hoses between EVAP VSV and Charcoal Canister.

B. Diagnostics for P0446:

1. Inspect vacuum hoses and pipes between EVAP (Purge) VSV and Charcoal Canister for leaks.
2. Replace Vapor Pressure VSV and Canister.
NOTE :When performing diagnostics for an occurrence of a MIL "ON" condition, Diagnostic
Trouble Code (DTC) P0441 may be result of debris in Evaporative Emission Control System. This
may cause blockage of a vapor line, or a stuck VSV, as described in troubleshooting area of Repair
Manual.
