My daugther's Cavalier experienced the same problem with the temp gauge needle getting stuck on the speedometer needle. Then it broke loose, then got stuck again. Do I have to rremove the dash to reach it? Is it just a matter of reattaching the needle, or will need replacing? Is a used part from junk yard a good idea?

These are a pain if you never done them before. you have to take out the whole dash a behind that is the guages, which come out all together.

My temp gage and speedometer gage is going haywire, temp gage is blocking my speedometer needle, 10 miles. What is the problem?

i need a little more clarification but it sounds like either you have a bad ground on your gauge cluster or it is simply going out/having a fault

The speedometer neddle on my voyager 2001 has gone all around and now the needle is stuck under the needle and can´t get upp! (It happend when the battery went down)

This worked for me. Put the key in the ignition, but do not turn; press the trip reset button and hold until you see "SOF" you will then see the SOF and a number and an error code. Diagnostics will run and the needles on all the gauges will move during the procedure. The speedometer needle should be reset and working when done.

Is speedometer connected to Tranny?

There is a vehicle speed sensor on top of the rear differential, this sensor is also for the anti-lock brakes. Sometimes you just remove it and clean it (it's magnetic) and may start working again otherwise you have to buy new. Yes, this sensor will affect the trany shifting.

Speedometer

look closly at the needle, there is a pin that the spedo needle sits on when the vechile is not moving. it normally sits on the top of it.
look closely and if it is actually under that pin then, this might sound like a joke, you have to reach execsive speeds to get the needle back to normal position. there are 2 ways to do this, long stretch highway or block up the vechicle and floor it. let me know how it turns out i came across this 5 times in the past year

Speedometer or fuel gage?

If speedometer which is bouncing around, it is likely a bad ground near where the speed sensor wire harness (which connects the speed sensor to the rest of the "network") exits the transmission housing. It's at the very back of the transmission (you have a 4T60E trans) to the left of where the right side half-shaft leaves the trans housing. Just look for damaged wires. If none, replace the speed sensor for $50-60.

If it is the fuel gage, the sensor is probably not "zeroed"--it's reading wrong, too high, and if it were to start at true "empty", it would read right. Thus, the gage is always reading a little high (maybe a 1/8-1/10th of a tank too high?). This isn't a problem until to stop, start, or turn quickly and cause the fule to slosh around in the tank and starve the in-tank pickup which sends fuel to the engine.

If it is the fuel gage, you should simply put as much fuel in as you can and see if the needle goes far above "F". If it does, note how far it went and then practice filling the tank when the needle is that same distance above "E".

Hope this helps.
