Question about 1997 Saab 900

1 Answer

I have just purchased a saab 900 auotomatic, after driving it for a short while it wont seem to go into reverse first time, a mechanic has told me that it could be the gear box fluid or the cable adjustment i want to check the fluid but cant seem to find out where it is?

My key is stuck in the ignition on my 97 Saab 900. It starts ok just when I turn it to the lock position the key wont come out. Any Ideas.

Some Saabs lock the gearlever in reverse as a security measure, and won't let you take the key out until reverse is selected.

My saab 900 se t. 96 wont go into reverse and the shifter is very sloppy

I am not a mechanic, although I have worked on cars in the past' I think by your description, the problem lies in you linkage between the shifter and transmission.

Won't do reverse. Drives fine otherwise. Little uncool getting into 4th. Pops out and grinds when clutch released in reverse. Linkage has been upgraded as per recall. Adjustments in that area seem not to...

I.m not familiar with Saab but I'm thinking that your transmission might have a bent fork inside that changes the gears. possible the one for 4th and reverse. I've heard of that problem on other carswith manual trans.

auotomatic or standard,? sounds like a mechanical linkage problem. I would start there.

No reverse for 1995 Saab 900s

This is almost certainly the case. The gears selector on the gearbox is worked by rods connected to the gear lever and minor mispositioning (often when you have had a clutch change) will cause this issue. Reverse always seems to be affected most by this issue. You might be aboe to fix it yourself, but without a little knowledge you could of course make it worse. I wouldn't spend out on a SAAB dealership to fix this though, a confident and competent local mechanic will probably sort it out for you at a much reduced cost.
