Question about 2007 Subaru Legacy 2.5i SE Sedan
Changing headlight meant I had to remove battery. Afterward idling rough and a p0506 check engine code appeared.

Often when disconnecting the battery the engine control computer 'forgets' the existing parameters for idle speed and such. The DTC that you are showing indicates that the idle speed is lower than expected. I have found that erasing the code with an OBD reader and then putting about 25 miles or so on the car will correct the low idle as that allows the engine control computer to bring the operating parameters up to date again as they were before you removed the battery.

You may have to take it to a shop and have them connect their OBD tool to the computer and clear the deep memory. If you have a code left in the deep memory it can reapear like that. Good luck. Please rate me so I know how I'm doing. Thanks.

SOURCE: idle malfunction
You need to replace your idle air controller (IAC). IAC basically opens and closes the throttle at idle so it stays at constants RPM. Hope this helps. Thanks for an honest rating and for using FixYa.

Drop in to an Autozone, or Pep Boys, or similar big parts store & they will usually scan for codes free. This will hopefully eliminate all the guess work, or at least point everyone in right direction for better diagnosis. If not obvious from codes what the problem is, get back to us and we'll help you out.
