1985 cadillac eldorado wont start battery good all lights and power works

Check the wire harness a foot or two from the
battery, for corroded fusible links

May have to open up some harness a little

Make sure the starter hasn't failed

Try to put battery power directly to the starter solenoid,
to see if it turns over,be careful under there, with the key
on, if it starts

Hi Julie.I have a 85 nissan truck too,it's silver,go to your positive battery cable, you have a fusible link tied in,about 5 wires, check them for burnt or swollen wires, won't start if burn't,here's a link to my fusible link, will be different than yours cause I changed mine a while back, the fusible link is 22.00 at dealer, can use same gauge wire to fix. Here's a video of my truck.

My Starter does not engage when I turn on the ignition of my 1985 Volvo 244. My lights work and my battery has been tested and is ok.

First, check your fusible link, your positive battery cable goes to starter and a fusible link is incorparated,it could be burnt or melted, not giving power to starter,if link is good then here's how to remove and take to Autozone to have tested,it's free and only takes a few minutes.

  • There is a fuse panel located behind the left hand side of the instrument panel. Check to see if the fuel injector fuse is good. Should the fuse look good then it is time to get out the multi meter or test light and diagnose the harness. I have put up a diagram and a description of the the points to check. Sometimes it comes down to diagnosing. Check the fuse first.

Have an 1985 mercury grand marquis have power to the ing swtich lights everything works except the starter no electric to the coil also I was told it is the starter relay not soiloid but, relay I can not...

You may want to start looking for a fusible link that might have burned.Sometimes they are located down by the starter and sometimes under the hood depending on the manufacturer. A fusible link looks like a plain wire but is indeed a fuse link and acts just like a regular fuse sometimes you will be able to see where it burnt through the insulation and sometimes you wont thats why i pull genlty on the wires and see which one starts to stretch.
