Question about 2001 GMC Jimmy

1 Answer

2001 jimmy not starting

I turn the key and i hear the starter relay in the fuse box under the hood click once - 1 click for each turn - no other sound - and nothing else engages - the battery is new and all other electrical functions work - I read the suggestion to replace the ignition switch but it seems to be sending a signal to the fuse box under the hood - should I replace ignition switch? - any other suggestions before I head in that direction?

You can try this==== take a screw driver and tap on the relay switch with the handle while somebody is turning the ignition. This is only a test, not a definate solution. If you haven't already, check the starter solonoid. My opinion, if the ignition was bad, it wouldn't even click at the relay, but without testing it's hard to say.

Is the anti-theft light lit on the instrument cluster ? Won't start how ? When you turn the key to start , what happens ? Nothing ? This would be a No crank - no start condition . Now if you turn the key to start and the starter engages and spins the engine and it doesn't start an run , this is a engine cranks no start condition ! Now which is your problem ?

There are two fuse's IGN A fuse 40amp and IGN E fuse 10amp ,both are located in the under hood fuse/relay box . Also there is starter relay located in the same under hood fuse /relay box . There also is a crank fuse 10amp in the under hood fuse box . Besides the fuse's and relay ,the ignition switch or the PNP - park neutral position switch could be bad . 2003 chevy s-10 wont even turn over? ran fine this afternoon. parked it, came out tonight, and it doesn't even crank over. Nothing!

You need to find someone who knows how to test the electrical circuits , check the battery , battery connections ! Do the headlamps light ? or they bright ? Does the dash light up when you turn the key on ? Without testing we would only be guessing , could be a lot of different thing's .The clicking sound is probably the starter relay . The starter could be bad , wiring problems , main battery feed cable to the starter . Testing is the only way of finding what's wrong, not guessing .

Engine will not turnover

If you are hearing clicks when you turn the key and if you know where the starter is, get under there and tap it with a hammer. Sounds archaic but when they start to go bad they stick. When you turn the key, the starter acts like the old hand crank you see in movies to spin the engine. When you release the key the starter believes it did its job and goes dormant. Anyway, if you hear clicks when you turn the key and if it starts after hitting it that is likely your problem.

My 2006 buick lacrosse wont start radio and lights work but its not saying nothing when i try to crank it

Hello! Do you hear a click when the key is turned?...If no click is heard either the ignition key, the Crank relay, the starter, or the battery are suspect...Having lights and radio does not mean the battery is capable of running a starter motor......Put a meter on the battery...should read 12.5 volts...Turn key...Does voltage drop to 8 or 9 volts? Bad battery...If all is well with battery and connections to it...Check the starter fuse # 33 in the under hood fuse/relay box...If the fuse is good that click you should hear is from the Crank Relay in that box...If all of the above is OK connect your meter to the Purple wire that is connected to the starter motor...When the key is turned 12 volts must be on that wire...If there is the starter motor is defective...So, #1...Do you hear a click when key is turned...That would point at a bad starter or weak battery...#2...If you do not hear a click bad fuse #33, bad Crank Relay, bad ignition switch...#3...If fuse is good Bad Crank Relay or Ignition switch; Crank Relay is a low cost item ($10)...Replace Relay...Stop there and send a comment as to results...Guru...saailer

I have 2006 Nissan Altima. The engine will not start or turnover, there is also a clicking sound that is coming from the black wiring box, which is located under the hood by front passenger side...

What size engine ? The clicking you hear is probably the starter relay , provided you hear the click while turning the key to the start position . That black box is the fuse / relay junction box. Testing the starter electrical circuits with a volt meter is the way to find the problem . Voltage drop testing . Free wiring diagrams here Enter vehicle info. Year , make , model and engine size . Under system click on engine then under subsystem click on starting . Click the search button then the blue link.Does your vehicle have a manual or automatic transmission ? First blue link for a manual transmission ,the second link for a automatic transmission .

I have a 2005 Tahoe with 43,000 miles and it will not start. It is not the battery. When you turn on the key all it will do is click and all light will come on.

Most likely the battery--even though you say no

If the battery is new ,then the solenoid on the starter
or the starter it's self

My 1996 Dodge caravan won't start. There's a clicking sound near the fuse box under the hood when i turn the key. i have checked the starter/solenoid. Any suggestions?

OK...this definetly sounds like the starter/solenoid, but not because it is faulty, but possibly due to low battery power......this clicking you are hearing might be the starter relay........what checks have you done already

Started with occasional click sound when I turned the key but would eventually start. Problem got worse and worse and now I do not even hear a click anymore. Replaced the starter and cylinoide and still...

Likely it is a bad relay. would have been easier to find when it was clicking but usually it's located with a group of other relays in a power distribution box.(under the hood)

1998 problem starting?

The relay is probably bolted in, and will have to be removed by unbolting it after removal of the fuse box. It could be the relay, although I doubt it. More likely other components beginning to fail such as the starter switch, the neutral safety switch, the contacts in the starter solenoid, or the battery itself.
