Question about 1999 Pontiac Firebird

1 Answer

Sounded like a blowout and water sprayed from somewhere under hood. I had water pump replaced yet water is flowing from both sides of the block when added. I found some pieces of a hard plastic material but is not from any hoses. Any ideas?

SOURCE: leaking coolant

These plastic elbows (3.8L Engine) do fail. To the best of my knowledge this is a dealer only item, which is not a big deal as the cost is low (in terms of car repair). Remove the alternator to gain access to the elbow. Monitor the coolant level following repair.

As you probably know, don't let the engine run low on coolant as engine damage will follow.

SOURCE: removing water pump asymbly. how do you get the

Not familiar with your car , but had to pull a pipe out of a 94 grand am to get the thermostat housing off.
Pipe was just pressed into hole in block with an O ring and a bit of silicon sealant. Try to gently twist the pipe. If it moves , you could probably twist and pull it out. As I said before , I am not familiar with your particular car , so exercise caution.

I had a bottom radiator hose blow off my 05 equinox and I flushed the block then the heater core a d changed the thermostat put all new coolant in and still keeps overheating

What about the radiator? Water pump? Can you check for coolant flow? There could be air in the cooling system? Do you trust your temp gage? Are there overheating issues besides the temp gage showing hot, like coolant overflowing, under the hood, somewhere?

Overheating leaking water profusly especially when you turn it off. Leaking somewhere behind the motor, also passenger side heat not working blowing cold air.

It sounds like you have a busted heater core hose. The only solution is to pin point the leak and replace the hose that's leaking. There are usually two heater core hoses coming out of the firewall on the passenger side of the vehicle. Examine both of them carefully for a blowout. Many times when a hose goes bad or is getting ready to go bad, it will have some swelling or deformation around the end of it. I hope this helps.

Water leak from somewhere around the fan belt?

It is the water pump. The seal is leaking and ruptured.
You must replace the water pump. Can't just install a seal.
The water pump has a pulley attached to it.
