1997 pontiac Sunfire will not shift into gear. I can shift it by hand with the lever on top of the transmission but it still will not move. Is there a vacum modulater on this model of car?

a vacum modulator does not prevent a car from shifting into gear. Usually when a car fails to move, internal parts of the transmission break and sometimes shatter prevent the clutch pack from functioning. The purpose of a vacum modulator is to allow the transmission to shift smoothly from one gear to the next, but now on allot of cars these days transmissions are solely controlled by the computer. If you transmission does have a vacum modulator then your will find a steel vacum line from the engine going to your transmission with short pieces of hose connecting the lines together.

The transmission won't shift out of 3rd and will only go up to 50 mph at around 3500 rpm.

check for a bad vacum to the modulator valve on your transmission,or a bad vacum to the modulator valve on the transmission. the modulator valve to the trans. works off of vacum from the engine,look for loose or disconnected vacum lines around the carb. or the air induction system. look for cracked vacum lines that seem to be sucking air when engine running at idle speed. in park. the modulator valve [usually] located on the drivers side,of the transmission,is the main cause of shifting failure. if the valve itself is bad, it will need replacement. thank you for choosing!

I have a 1994 v6 garnd am SL,It has a transmition (4T60E). It will not shift into 3rd gear and runs really rough. could this be a stuck transmission valve or the transmission solenoid. please help

if the car is running rough in park i would have to guess it is probally vacuum related...check the vacum line to the modulator and also is heater working right....there is some vacuum lines that run under the battery tray that will mess with it to......hope this helps

My Blazer just got a new transmisson, but it will not shift. It just stays in first gear. Also, the speedometer will not work, and the ABS light comes on?

speedo not working could be they put the new transmission in and did not connect or the gear is missing or the wrong type .

sounds like vacume assit module is bad or not connected in the back of the transmission is a brass colored bell shaped part with a vacume line attached right above the tansmission pan follow the vacume line could have slipped between the engine and transmission and is kinked or wasnt connected at all wich could be the case if your speedo isnt connected abs light could be because you have a vacume leak because the vacume assit module isnt connected.

Can't find external modulator valve on transmission

Hello Friend:
Your Vacum Modulator is on the Side of your Transmission, You'll see a Vacum Line Running to it. From your Intake Manifold.

Theres a Retaining Clamp with 1-Bolt Holding it in the Transmission ,Remove the Bolt and Don't Loose the Clamp or Bracket. NOTE: On some vehicles the Modulator Screws in, You'll know By Either Seeing the Retaining Clamp and Bolt.

When you remove the Vacum Modulator theres a Acuating Pin ,Sometimes more than Not it will Fall out DON'T Loose This You'll need to Put it back in Before you Install your New Modulator.

2003 4.0 V6 explorer with the vacume line off the egr it runs, but runs rough. when the vacume line is hooked up to the egr it cuts off. i put a new egr on and it did the same thing please asap..

First. Check the vacum routing from the egr. facing the engine, the vac.
line should go to the right and connect to the egr vacum regulator
solenoid. The line from the solenoid to manifold vacum. The solenoid
is also connected to the powertrain ctrl. module And some models,
have a egr sensor. the two vac.lines from the sensor(if equipped)go to
the exaust below the egr valve. The three wires from the sensor go to the pcm. At this I would plug in the obd2 scanner if no vac.leaks or
bad connections have been found. This can narrow the field greatly.
You can stop by an autozone/napa etc. they will scan it for free.

My car is a nissan maxima 96 .engine 3.0l v6 efi sometimes run good but when i stop is turning off .you guys told me is the ignition module.the auto parts people said this car don't have ignition...

Make sure there is no vacum leak on the engine. Also, I had the same issue because of a crack in the rubber intake hose. Idled real low. would shut off when you come to a stop.
