Code p0128 and p1289 check engine light on

Idles high around 1200 rpm all new vacuum lines, manifold brand new just bought a new air filter and cleaned out the IAC and Mass

Cleaning out IAC and MAF does not solce the problem of electronic continuity. Hook up to diagnostic tester at autozone and it will tell you what's up. with vehicle. free test.

Most likely the throttle body gasket (between the throttle body and the intake manifold) is leaking.

it is normal. car is designed to do this when engine is cold. it called open loop. when it warms up it is called closed loop.

these O2 sensors are cat convertor check sensors. id be checking cat convertors and hopefully you should try replacing if not all ready is the front bank 2, O2 sensor
if you have scanner can you see fuel trims in data display to confirm high fuel trim only on bank 2 either +-5 or more indicates problem and if bank 2 sensor 2 has fixed high 700mv reading cat no good(warm idling)

Sounds like a dirty air filter is putting the mass airflow sensor out of range. The throttle position sensor is subject to physical wear, the age of your truck warrants replacing it. The coolant temp sensor controls the Idle Air Solenoid which determines idle speed ( cold, high idle, 1200 rpms open loop mode for the ECU) and (hot, low idle, 800 rpms, closed loop mode for the ECU) If the truck does not have a Mass airflow sensor, check the Manifold absolute pressure sensor (MAP). Perform an OBDII scan for stored fault history to avoid buying parts you don't need. Do the cheapest fixes first. Go ahead and change the fuel filter also. There is a lot of water in todays fuels

Won't maintain a proper idle. Someone said it needed a new airflow meter. ?? Vacuum hoses seem to be allright. Will run if idle is pushed up to 1200 rpm. At normal rpm of around 750 it stalls out when...


Remove air filter and pipe work. Clean out the intake manifold with carb cleaner (I know it's not carbed :)

There is a thing called an EVAC, this is inside the intake, and needs cleaned. Run carb cleaner for 20 minutes through the system. Switch off and let it cool. Start it up and let her idle.

Will not idle runs fine otherwise


If the check engine light is on, take the car to an autoparts store and have them scan the computer for any codes stored. Most parts stores will do the scan for free and getting the codes will show what the computer has noted. I would suspect a faulty idle air control valve, but retrieving the fault codes will narrow things down and end the need for speculation. Really sorry for your trouble and I hope this helped. YOU have a gasket missing or leaking air or the idler vent hole has dirt in it
Take it off again and check it out but Dont use sealing glue of any kind to seal any part new gaskets is the only way to go...

HIGH IDLE ON 1995 GMC SUB 350 TB


Low / uneven idle problem can cause by a lot of components.

Dirty air filter

Dirty injectors + o-rings

Vacuum leak at intake manifold and vacuum hose.

Bad Idle Air Control Motor (IAC)

Low compression (170 psi + is OK)

Start cleaning and repair these trouble spots and see is there any improvement.

For more advance DIY'er then you may try this.

Use a can of Berryman carburetor clean to locate the vacuum leak.

This is a 20-30 minutes job.

Vacuum leaks can occur in following locations.


Intake manifold AND/OR vacuum lines.


Intake manifold is not accessible unless the engine head if off.

You can still check the potential leak by spraying some Berryman near the intake manifold.

Listen for rpm increase after you introduce the Berryman (FUEL) at idle.


Do the same starting from the brake booster unit (the round unit) on the drive side fire all.

Carefully listen for increase of RPM right after to spray the Berryman to the potential vacuum spot.

Get a friend to HEAR the ROM increase or monitor for RPM on the tech.

DO NOT AIM the Berryman into any heat source.

Slow idle in the morning


Is the check engine light on? If it is, then take the car to an autoparts store and have them scan the computer for fault codes. Most parts stores will do the scan for free. The idle is regulated by the computer, so it may be a faulty idle air control valve, but getting the codes will tell the tale. Hope this helped and best wishes.

Windstar will not stay running in cool or cold weather but if it is warm or hot no problem


Here is the common cause of surges, stalls at stops, slow idle speed, erratic idle speed, rough idle and engine hesitation (and other problems), it is in most cases the idle speed control air-bypass valve and or throttle valve and upper intake, these area's get full of gunk and combustion residue over the miles and cause idle issues (stalls, low idle) like yours, Get a can of intake cleaner from any local parts store, not carb spray, intake cleaner, it is made by a company called CRC, remove the air intake hose to the engine, hold the idle high so the engine won't stall, then spray the can of cleaner into the intake while keeping the engine running, use at least 1/2 the can, shut down the engine and disconnect the battery for 5 minutes, then restart and complete a number of mixed driving cycles, town, freeway, stop and go etc., after a few days the problem will go away as the system will relearn to the clean intake.

Car wont idle


you may have a vacuum leak, check all the vacuum lines around your inlet manifold, carbi etc for cracks or ones that have come off their fitting.
Check all the retaining bolts and nuts around the manifold, they may be a bit loose.
