2002 jeep liberty motor-2.4 chain driven component below crankshaft need to find if position matters and how to time

no photos. so help will limited .
all cam timing matters.
"not sure what does", the cam, crank, sprocket or pin?
The 2.4L inline 4 engine, is a throw back old Dodge Neons
DOHC engine ,a twin cam head.
2002 is first year, Liberty in USA>
is this the 2.4L turbo engine, EDZ engine.??
KJ jeep it is.
be nice to say what job your working? HOw'd you get here?
if you buy the service manual from jeep
chapter 9s, covers this 2.4 total engine, in one chapter.
but this engine cams are Belt drive. NOT CHAIN.
first post that it really is, this engine? or the VIN, or photos.

so you must be confused on that is there.
the other engine, the 3.7L is a V6 engine vastly different than the 4 banger.
it has chains.
covered in chapter 9- page 71 +
this v6 has a counterbalancer too.
i recommend reading the FSM book on this engine , after counting cylinder, 4 or 6? and reading chapters 9 or 9s.

see KJ 2002 here
RTM read the manual
seen here

My timing chain tensioner on my 01 dodge stratus wore out and chain slipped a few links is there any way to get chain, aligned with cams and crank without removing timing chain cover it is a 2.7 litre dohc

No-have to remove the front cover

Watch the Video on you tube

Has the oil seldom been changed on
that motor since it was new?

Lots to read on problems with that motor

Lack of oil changes
Sludge & Coolant Leaks
Water Pump & Chain issues

Seems most chrysler engines have problems
especially 4 cylinders

I have a 1994 chevy s10 its making tapping noise in the timing chain cover

Have to remove the front timing cover
& replace the gears & chain set on a V6

On a 4 cyl you may only have to do the chain &
tensioners

Need a manual for torque specs & anything you
don't understand

2001 Ford Ranger 3.0L V6 Timing Chain Issue

if the quote was ridiculously high
the mechanic didn't want the job

you could take the rocker covers off and check the cam chain timing marks

first picture is the crank chain of that engine heavy duty one
front of the motor ......take a few things off
remove timing chain cover
and there is that one
second picture
there are chains kits for the cam shafts

as for engine not turning over

if motor is stuck solid and no movement back or forward
on the crank
oil pump may have failed and seized the engine

mechanic would be right
the original engine rebuild will be expensive because of the internal damage

if that is the case source a used motor and drop that in

I have a 1989 Buick Regal with the 3.1 V6 engine. What is the replacement interval for the timing chain? This car has well over 200,000 miles I think on the original chain. I am the second owner and got it...

There is no standard replacement interval for timing chains. There are some signs that will indicate that it is worn out like a rattle from behind the timing cover. If the engine has been taken care of the chain should last the life of the engine.

The only time I have changed them is if the vehicle has higher miles and the timing cover needs to be pulled to fix a problem like an oil leak or coolant leak. Otherwise they are not common repairs.

Need to replace timing chain need pics to finsh it

you need a manual.
and there are many motors with a chain.

2.0L
1.8L
2.0 v 6
2.5 v6
2.6 v6

all have diff setup.
if you disclose the motor type, one can give you PDF on that motor.
here in USA we have all fsm in the pub . library.
fsm - factory service manual.

you need to align the timing marks and use spec. sealant to seal front cover .

Leaking coolant

that would ba a big negative the only thing that runs inside that cover is oil now it could be either your water pump or thermostat housing if either one is near that cover the best thing to do is wash down the engine when its cold and once all clean run it and just sit and wait itll show up.. but to answer your question no.. no such thing as coolant in the timing cover
