1997 Jeep Grand Cherokee Heating/AC Problems

I am having problems with both my heating and AC. When I cut the heat on, it blows slightly warm air, but not enough to warm the vehicle. I have the exact same problem with my AC. When I cut the AC on it blows slightly cold air, but not enough to cool the vehicle. I have found people who have one or the other problems, but not both. I would think that they are connected somehow. I bought the Jeep like this so I have no information about if they went out together or if one went out then the other went out later. I'm thinking that it might be a hole in one of the vent shafts, but I wouldn't know where to start looking. Thank you guys in advance for helping me out with this.

i suspect you need to think of it as two problems. first for the heat tho... feel the hoses going into and out of the heater core... same temperature ?

There are a couple of things you should check. first thing check that the fan and swirl cage are still together. this can be done two ways. simply turn either the ac or heat on and turn the blower up to hi quickly and listen to see if you hear the whine of the motor along with the force of the air go up. if you only hear the whine of the motor go up, there is your problem. most require a locking washer or a pressed cap. you can either be enginuitive on how you get it to stop spinning or take it to an automotive mechanic. next thing that could be wrong is the speed control knob could be broken. you can test that by either hooking up a known good blower motor and turning it up and down. seeing if it changes speeds or testing it with a multi meter. now if its air temp your having a problem with directly under the center of the dash behind a black plastic panel there is an ambiant temp baffle that controls just what its name is. there is a servo attached to it via a metalic rod. that is the only other thing i can think of..

good luck

The A/C and heating problems in GC's is most often caused by broken blend doors, which control the flows of hot and cold air.

I have a 2001 jeep grand cherokee laredo the problem i have is when i cut my heat on it blows out of all vents but it is not very hot. the temp gauge is reading between 195 and 210. i felt the heater hoses...

Check that the Heater / AC Door Actuator Motor is actually functioning by selecting heat to vent and listen.

Make sure you have vacuum to your climate controls by selecting various air vents (upper/lower/face)

If the return heater hose is not warm also - then your heater core might be plugged up. A replacement heater core runs between $83 and $153 at NAPA depending on their mood when you price it. It is kind of a pain to replace you might want to have a shop do it.

look for Main A/C relay, look for fuses, or go to a/c shop and have gas check out, perhaps leaks, perhaps evaporator, perhaps condenser, but start for relay box on front passengers side, or fuses on same side

Heated seats are not working but light is on

Sounds like the same problem I had. I brought it to the Jeep dealer and they told me that the heating element in the seat stopped working. They told me that the only way to repair was to take the seat apart and replace the heating element in the seat. Of course they will charge you the standard $80 to tell you this. and then quote you $500 plus to repair. I can't even remember how much, I have decided it was not worth it.
