They don't use vac any more. They use electric motors to open and close the blend doors now.

At least they use electric motors for blend doors on 2004 Olds Alero cars. If you have vac going to something under the dash, the source should be on the intake manifold.

That would be the vacuum line going to the heater/AC control head, so you could pull out the HVAC controller, find the main vacuum line coming from the engine, and splice, with new connectors and new line as needed, the line back together.

Hearter temp control was blowing too hot, now only blows cold

Clicking sound you hear is the worn brushes in your blower motor. At this point the blower moter may or may not start with the switch. THe blower motor is faulty so I would change that first, then check for vacuum leaks or faulty selector cable for the heat blend door. It could have came off door side or heater control side.

Heater valve location

It's a vacuum line to control the valve? It will connect there at valve and run into and under the dash to the back of the heater control panel. All the vacuum control hoses for the heat and AC are in a pod that connects to the back of the heater controls. A vacuum line from the engine is also there, the pod will send the vacuum signal out to various doors on the heater/AC case, as the controls demand. One also goes to the heater control valve.

Ac not working

You didn't mention WHICH ENGINE your Explorer is equipped with. However, I have fixed a bunch of those that are equipped with the 4.0L engines. The vacuum line for the heater shutoff valve is a plastic line that goes up to the front part of the engine on the passenger side. The plastic line likes to break there. ( Actually, this is the line to the vacuum reservoir, but it is the main source for the entire climate control system.)You can "mend" the plastic line by using a short piece of rubber vacuum hose and push the broken ends inside of it.

What is the best way to diagoise heater control problems

Hi,
The best way is to trace that vacum line and see where it leads. If it has come off the intake manifold area then it will need to be refitted as it is a main vacum supply hose to other components.
