seems like there is a miss when it idles and the idle goes from high to low if its at a stand still. Just had new plugs and wires and new serpentine belt and oil changed. I thought new plugs and wires would have stropped the prob. but it still does it. I was thinking maybe there is a hole or something in the exhaust or catalyic but who knows. Very frustrating!

Tickover 1500 rpm when warm

idles too fast.
what engine?
what year?

on a gas engine, the idle speed is 100% controlled by PCM at all times. hot.
so its out of control that means the PCM closes the ISC valve.
and RPM will not drop. (its stuck open) or vacuum air leaks
jeeps use speed density EFI system using the MAP sensor.
this means all air leaks on jeeps , cause wild fast idle speeds.
that is all you need to know , to find problem (find leaks)

clean the ISC yet (idle speed control) valve.?

What is the purpose of the IAT? 2006 jeep grand cherokee laredo

Do you mean IAC. This is the Idle Air Control Valve and would be what you need to replace.
The Idle Air Control (IAC) valve is an electric actuator controlled by the engine computer, which regulates the engine's idle speed. A faulty IAC valve will make the engine idle rough and possibly stall.

Jeep back fires and idles lumpy

This type of problem can be caused by engine wear issues, shorted or cross firing spark plug wires, moisture in distributor, lean fuel mixtures and vacuum leaks. Check all these area's for problems

Will idle high sometimes up to 3000 rpms when driving or sitting still

I have the same Jeep and same problem. The engine was running rough. The Jeep dealer fixed a vacum problem in the manifold and they then decarbonized and cleaned the fuel injectors. After these repairs the idle problem began, it would spike to 2000 rpm while sitting at idle, sometimes it would slowly come down, sometimes I would have to tap the accelerator. I took it back in and they then replaced the throttle motor and reprogrammed the PCM (Power Control Module?) Still same problem. Now they suspect a another vacuum leak and I am taking it back in on Tuesday, will let you know what happens, $ 1,300 so far.

Did you get a warranty of some kind? Hopefully you did and it didn't run out yet, if that's the case, definitely bring it back to the dealer to have them fix the problem. Most dealers give at least a 30 day warranty. You should not have this problem with a 3 year old vehicle that you recently purchased.

Idle prolem could be a dirty throttle body or sticky air idle control motor.
If the Jeep is a 6 cly. the adjustment for the belt is the power steering pump.
If the Jeep is an 8 cyl. the tensioner is on the pass. side of car.
