Remove the hold-down bolt and retainer clamp that holds down the distributor, remove the cap and mark on the manifold or firewall which way the rotor is pointing.....try to get it marked well for reference, then turn the distributor back and forth while pulling up at the same time....spray a little WD-40 around the base if it's stuck. You'll notice the rotor turns slightly as you pull it out...see how far it turns and which direction so that when you reinstall the distributor, you'll be able to put the rotor in the same position before re-installing...very critical. Don't forget to mark all the wires and where they go with masking tape or bread bag clips....... Good luck, Paul Source(s): 25 years in GM parts, service and bodyshop

Keep in mind that some S trucks don't have a distributor cap, they have coil packs. Maybe that is what is confusing your Granpa. To remove the cap itself its either 2 screws or 2 clamp clips good luck I hope this helps

No it is actually pretty simple

Check the fuel pressure at the fuel rail on top of the engine it should read a minimum of 30 psi if any lower replace the fuel pump, also if you smell a gas odor and the fuel pressure regulator looks wet with gas replace the pressure regulator before the fuel pump. This sounds like a fuel delivery issue.

Im trying to change the timing belt and dont know how

You really need to get the Haynes or Chilton's repair manual on your vehicle from a parts store so you have the pictures and instructions to do it correctly. As far as a diagram of the timing marks and how they align you can look here:

Im going to have to change my serpentine belt on a 96 buick park avenue. 3800 non supercharged. Looked at it yesterday and it looks like I have to unbolt motor mount to get the belt off? Is there an easier...

yes.that is the only way.You have to unbolt the motor mount. To replace the serpentine belt on a V6 3800 series non-supercharged motor, you must jack up the motor and remove a motor mount. Before going any further make sure that the factory belt diagram sticker is still somewhere under the hood; if not, make a detailed diagram of the path of the belt. You must then use a breaker bar with a socket (I believe 13/64") and pull it toward the front of the car to release the belt tensioner. Put the new belt on, tighten it, put the mount back on, and lower the jack. Thanks. keep updated for any more query.you can rate this solution and show your appreciation.
