I have a 1983 Dodge ramcharger, I have let it run till it shuts off several times to see what is HOT after it dies out and still have not figured this one out? Nothing feels that hot? Obviously, :/ I too have replaced the norm that would cause this shutting off after 15 minutes or so of running? I have replaced fuel pump TWICE!,fuel filter TWICE,ignition coil, pick up coil, rotor, cap, wires, plugs, dimmer switch, carb rebuild kit,Voltage regulator,Ignition control modulator,Balaster resister, oil change with oil filter, radiator flush. The ramcharger STILL IS SHUTTING OFF after 15-20 minutes :( so,so very frustrating I'm stumped and have my mechanical self and other mechanics stumped as well? So today I'am online to find a diagram of some kind to figure out what hose or wire is causing this issue or what the heck it could be?I work on Honda's unfortunately, my Honda is in the process of engine rebuilding so now I'm out with no vehicle.:( I do know of a certain hose or wire getting too hot would cause the engine to shut off ( a safety feature I guess??) ,but which hose or wire is where I'am confused with??? Another thing that is leaning me towards electrical wiring error is the fact the gas gauge does not work all the others DO?,but in a 1983 ramharger , I assumed it was the float ...or now possible wire issue? Are the two a sign that it is indeed faulty wiring as to why it wont stay running past 15-20 minutes or is it this hose or wire that is becoming to hot and shutting off the ramcharger the issue here??? If so How do i go about this and figure it out?All help is needed please as this is becoming overly annoying :( having no running wheels really is the pits!

vapor loking;if u have a plastic fuel filter too close to the heat and it dies out and if you see bubbles then u r vapor locking get metal fuel filter away from any heat. another way remove gas cap if it dies out u r still vapor locking.

Check to see if the radiator fan is coming on when the van gets hot.If it does not then on a 2.6 liter engine.look on the bottom part of the radiator on drivers side for a fan switch that could be bad and not letting the radiator fan to come on. On a 3.0 liter engine the coolant temperature sensor is screwed into the thermostat housing. And on a 3.3 liter and on a 3.8 liter engine the coolant temperature sensor is screwed into the front cylinder head. Anyone of these can cause the van to run hot and eventually die with no restart until the temperature has cooled down. Check the fan first with two jumper wires from the positive/negative post to the fan connector on a 2.6 liter engine (positive wire to open pin on plug, negative wire to insulated plug side. On all v6 engines hook jumper wires to motor. To the left side will be positive and negative to the right. Do not let both wires touch together while testing. If motor does not respond to direct wiring then replace it. Another thing to look at is the catalytic converter on van. Check the exhaust flow when the van is running cold and again when it gets hot. If the flow starts to slow down when the van gets hot then remove the converter(plugging up). After doing that run the van again to see if the van runs ok. Hope this will help you.

SOURCE: hi i have a 1992 dodge

Look for some electrical or fuel related heat affected problem ... Something stops working when the car gets to operating temperature. Beyond that, I can't be more specific, Tony. Good luck ... When you find it ... post your answer please.

I have 84 ramcharger started fine used for about 1/2 hour plowwing driveway shut off would not restart until cooled off 2nd time it has done this?

Sounds as if the ignition control module is getting hot and not allowing it to restart. Had the same issue with a Dodge b-250 van, except for the plowing part. It would run for about an hour and start sputtering and shut off. After it cooled down, van would start and run great for the same length of time and do it again.

I have a 1981 ramcharger 318 4 barrel edelbrock carb. it starts fine, drives well for about 15 min but dies. dies quicker when 4 barrels kick in. about 2 min after dying it will start up fine and do it...

Those rattly noises are detonations,  caused by a very lean mixture. All the other symptoms indicate that the fuel flow to the carb is too low. Since you have replaced the pump and the filter, the only other things left to check are the lines and the tank sump. Or you could install a much larger pump.

Dodge ram (RAMCHARGER) won't run/start/stay running

It is probably a crank or cam sensor/wiring issue. Check for excessive play in the distributor shaft for the cam sensor. Crank sensor should be on the bell housing of the trans on the passenger side upper.

Fuel system problems

Try running some fuel back through the feed line from the pump to the tank. Chances are you will see fuel leaking out of it somewhere. The pump on the engine pulls fuel. Even a pinhole will draw in air.
You did check the sock filter in the tank right?
