That is not the problem the problem is your convertable roof is not closing properly to test this let someone press down on the roof lid and then try to open the trunk, To fix this let the roof lid open and let the roof come up until the back part stands up to let the roof lid close so that the roof hold is exposed look on the right hand side of the car (if your standing at the back) under the roof lid catch there is a small plastic buttun that the roof lid catch needs to pres down on, this tells the car that the roof lid is seucre and it is now safe to let open the trunk, All you have to do is set the tension on the cable for that roof lid catch and the problem is sorted.

I had the same problem with the suspension on an o2 X5 Sport,it was the stabiliser pump in the rear,Range rover is the same pump and is cheaper than the BMW part, they also do an exchange unit.

if after unlocking and pushing the button to open not working if it has the back seats that fold down to allow long things to be put in trunk you can look for the manual trunk release. it should be illuminated in the dark

SOURCE: 2005 bmx x5 battery drain
You need to check for any lighting left on overnight if not try to fully recharge your battery and perform a load test on it to see if it will hold the charge if so possible drainage off of interior lighting switches or alarm possible

It should be sping loaded. You may have to spray a little WD-40 down the cable and at the latch inside the door assembly. The button may be either on the driver's door or near the seat. Let me know if you would like a copy of the shop manual for this car.
