SOURCE: passenger seat adjustment

I had the same problem when I first got my 2003 also. I played with it for a while and kept pushing down the levers on both sides and it finally caught. I haven't had a problem since.

More than Likely Stripped out. This is a Dealer only Repair. You could get the Parts from the Parts Counter at the Dealership and repair this yourself But, It is not Easy!

SOURCE: I have a 99 Silverado and the passenger side seat back will not lock back into the upright position. Locks fine into reclining positions. What could be the problem?

i had this problem on my 96 chevy, basically theres a set of ratcheting gears that lock the seat in place in the various positions. sometimes over time or due to abuse one side or the other gets stripped out and the seat will no longer lock into place. i found a ripped up seat on Craigslist that was in a part out truck and bought it cheap then took both seats in the an upholstery shop, between the junked out seat (15 bucks) and the labor at the shop (50bucks) it cost me 65 bucks to fix, hope this helps

Testimonial: "Was going through my account and noticed I never replied to this, so... I tried a few different things and finally used PB Blaster in both release handles (WARNING!! That is one excellent product, but it has a really strong smell!!) Either rust or something stuck where it should have been, it freed it when I sprayed the release to the rear of the seat. Merely worked release, think forward one first (been a while lol) then rear and it worked fine.. and has never given me problems since."

Working for the dealer- doesn't tell you a thing
The switches you use could be worn, the mechanics
of the seat & motors could be worn or binding.
You could have seat module issues
The dealer, while too expensive to be at
in the first place, should have put some time into it
once your there
You could try a repair shop near by

Back tilt is a manual round knob on drivers seat it just turns

It sounds like the inside of the recliner knob is stripped out. If you go to your local GM dealership and give them your VIN number they can order you a new one. Here is the removal and installation directions.
Driver or Passenger Seat Recliner Handle Replacement Removal Procedure
  1. Use a flat-bladed tool to remove the plastic center cap from the center of the recliner handle.

  2. Pull the recliner handle off the shaft.
Installation Procedure
  1. Install the recliner handle on the recliner shaft.

  2. Push the recliner handle firmly onto the recliner shaft until fully seated.
  3. Install the plastic center cap into the center of the recliner handle.
Hope this helped please hit the accept button and positive feedback is appreciated.

You make up seat back stops out of some type
of hard plastic to move the seat back forward

If you have no stops on each corner, then the seat
comes out, upholstory off & some TIG Welding takes
place to modify to your likeing

You could shim the rear mounting brackets
on the floor but that is sort of crude & the bottom
cushion will feel odd

I wouldn't ruin anything by trying things yourself

I would have a dealer check it out

Front seats recliners won't "click" in the upright position.

personally i would pull the seats and weld them into a position that is comfortable both sides of the seat should be welded. a small mig welder would take care of this issue nicely and permanently ! .. jay Florida

Cannot put top up on 1987 allante the latch is locked in and icannot open the latch on the pull down motor

There's a switch ( kinda same shape, color & operation method as your power seat switches) behind driver's seat near the 2 Boot/Top 'release' pull tabs,, it's mounted on the "roof" of the open compartment area behind the seats. Slide your hand along there til you feel it. It recycles the pull-down motor up & down & should release the top. Also try in the trunck, there's 2 hard plastic strings with loops at end,, pull & see if it releases it.

Back of front seat will not go upright ,on my 2005 ford freestyle

If the latch is working and the seat will not sit straight up and down the seat frame is likely "bent" (common problem on Ford SUVs) and cannot be fixed with normal tools. You can attempt to bend it back by pushing from the back seat, but the metal may be weak enough it may work it's way back to a reclining position. I have removed the seat cover taken seat out, bent the metal back and placed the seat back in only to have the same problem crop up. I would recommend trying to secure a used seat of the same color from an auto recycling place like Pick n Pull or if you are willing to pay more and have less hassle you can get one from a regular Auto Salvage yard.

Passenger seat stuck in lying down position.

Use some penetrating lubricant on all pivot points and levers around the recline mechanism, and let the lubricant sit overnight. In the morning, try to work the recline mechanism free. (The vehicle is quite old at this point, and likely parts in the interior need lubrication. These parts should be lubricated annually.)
