The btsi solenoid is probably went out of it, you can remove the shifter boot and pop the linkage off of it and get it to shift had to do this to mine before

SOURCE: 1986 Chevy truck stuck in neutral on column

is there any resistance at all when you shift gears. sounds like the linkage is broken... perhaps right at the transmission itself.... should be an easy fix as i would guess the clip holding the linkage on has failed.
other option is that the transmission has failed.

is that an automatic or standard tranny ?

SOURCE: Can someone tell me about why my 2003 chevy cavalier shiftarm between front seats won't move to drive or reverse it seems that it is stuck on neutral. I can't move it and won't go back to

Sounds like an issue in the linkage at the transmission.

SOURCE: 94 v6 camaro automatic.. no reverse or neutral.

Sounds like you may have burned out the reverse clutch pack inside the transmission by going from drive to reverse. I would recommend seeing a transmission shop for verification. Hope this helps

SOURCE: My Chevy trailblazer says its in reverse but moves

im not to familar with trailblazers but to me it sounds like it could be onw of two problems the first thing im thinking is the transmission cable it may be to lose not alowing you two shift it properly or it may be the center console itself but i would check the trans cable first try tightning it but be careful they brake pretty easy

My trail blazer will shift to park reverse and neutral but not to drive

Have someone check your motor mounts and your shift linkage for wear, binding, and or damage from car accident or from foreign object under the car.
Problem should be in one of those areas.

Car stuck in reverse how do I get it back in park

The shifter is connected to a cable that is then attached to a small lever on the transmission. Disconnet the cable at the transmission end and you'll likely be able to physically put it in neutral. Disconnect it at the shifter end and you'll be able to move the shifter to trigger the neutral lockout switch and allow the car to start. You can also short this switch to trick the car into thinking it is in neutral.

Shifter shows in park but in reverse, button will not let shifter work

Linkage adjustment. As for the button you will have to take shifter apart to unlock it. Car won't start as the switch is not being engaged. Some start up in neutral, don't know if yours does this.

My 2004 chevy cavalier won't start it is stuck in

Your shifter cable sounds like it separated from the transmission or shifter or just broke. you are probably stuck in a moving gear so the neutral safety switch is disabling the ignition.

Started with reverse lights not going off but u can fool with shifter and make them go out. Now the highbeams are acting up . When they do the only way to get them to go off is to unhook the battery or...

You obviously can't use it like that

You have to go to a repair shop or dealer

There may be a Bulletin for that problem,
so it can be resolved

Can't release key - gear shifter problem? Recall item???

the ignition switch should be replaced but if you want to try to fix it on the cheap use some nonconductive lubricant in the key hole and on the key work the key in and out 10-15 times before turning the key reapplying lube repeat, do not use regular lubricant it can cause short of the switch, if you can't find nonconductive lubricant spray electrical contact cleaner into it or powdered graphite lube.
