Valve stem-to-valve rocker arm clearance should be within specification with the valve tappet completely collapsed.
The collapsed valve tappet gap, when the cylinder head is on base circle, should be as follows:

    • Minimum: 0mm (0.000 inch)
    • Nominal: 2.2mm (0.087 inch)
    • Maximum: 4.5mm (0.177 inch)

What setting for valves on 2000 jeep cherokee sport 4.0?

Call a Jeep dealer, but, if I read the question right, it is 0.
Your Jeep has hydraulic lifters, therefore there is no valve " lash", the stem of the valve is supposed to be in constant contact with the lifter, which is in constant contact with the overhead camshaft.
Check this information with an engine mechanic.

Engine Valve Train ? Ticking Noise

This is a step by step guide on how to find, remove, repair, and refit noisy valve lifters in your Isuzu 6VD1 engine.

The first picture explains a good way to figure out which side the noisy lifter is coming from, by using a stethoscope.

The second picture is showing how the excessive clearence in between the valve and the valve stem itself cause's the ticking sound you hear. Of course you will need to remove the rocker cover to get to the vavle assembly.

The 3rd picture shows the wear on the face of the lifter or lash adjuster once you have pulled it out, and once again you will need to remove the valve train to do this. Just mark with a white marker the valves with the excessive clearence before you pull the valve assembly off.

The 4th picture is showing how to remove the valve lash adjuster from the rocker itself. As it says in the pic. be sure not to damage the O-ring as you remove it.

The 5th picture is showing how to depress the check ball in the lash adjuster once it is remove so that the excess oil can be removed from it prior to cleaning and inspecting it.

The 6th picture is showing that carburettor cleaner is sprayed on the lash adjuster, but make sure that the oring is carefully removed first. Then check for wear and tarnishing after cleaning.

The 7th picture is showing the adjuster fully submerged in a cleaning solution like Calite to thoroughly clean it and while it is submerged, working the check ball in and out to get it really clean.

Now once this has been done then soak the lash adjuster in engine oil and work the check ball to get the oil into the valve body.
Refit the o-ring and then refit back into the rocker.
Reassemble the rocker and valve assembly to the head and make valve clearence adjustments.

The last picture shows the refitting of the rocker cover with new gaskets and sealant being used, you don't want to have to remove it because its leaking.

Well I hope that this quick overveiw of repairing those noisy and rattly lifters will be of great use and also save you a bit of money.

    Happy motoring everyone.

How to set valves on Toyota 1991 23re engine

actually all engine that have lash can be set with no books
only the 2 numbers. for intake or exh. in usa its on the hood sticker.
the engine has a firing order, use that to set lash on all cars made.
all engines. (ASE 101 class day 1 , engine 1)
there are other ways (in the FSM) but we dont need that. at all.
lets say its a 4 banger, firing at 1,3,4,2 as most non boxers do.
so set #1 to firing TDC. set lash now.
    then rotate crank 180deg. CW.
that is #3 firing, set lash at #3
    180 more set 4
    180 more set 2.
see why that works on all engines. ,
the trick works because its really 4 engines there.
you can set the in any order of you know how to find tdc firing.
nothing else needs to be known.

that hood sticker, open hood and look up,see EPA sticker there./
    bingo. lash.

How to adjust valve lash on a 1990 Geo Storm

    its an Isuzu engine.
    there are 3 engines.
    4XE1, SOHC 1.6L (base)12valves
4XE1, DOHC , 1.6L same as above but now with 16valves.
4XE1, DOHC, 1.8L bends valves if belt snaps...
note the bad idea of ISUZU calling all 3 engine same name.
    a horrid idea.
which one? the second was in USA and Canada only.
the second one was offered as the GSI. is yours that?

so I will attempt to guess for you, its the base engine.
    (odds of coin toss)
    toss #2, USA, SOHC
guess 3: did a new belt and want to do lash next. Cam belt>
No job stated so i guess 3 times.
    Just lash.
SOHC 1.6L only (FSM book quote)
Check the valve lash between the rocker arm and valve stem on both the intake and exhaust valves on the number 1 cylinder, the intake valve(s) on the number 2 cylinder and the exhaust valve on the number 3 cylinder. If the valve lash on the intake valves is not 0.006 in. (0.15mm), adjust the valve lash. If the valve lash on the exhaust valve is not 0.010 in. (0.25mm), adjust the valve lash.

    1.6L twin cam has shims.
1.8L has HLA , no lash to set.

    HLA= Hydraulic Lash adjusters.

I posted this before, search for it. Im only doing 1 engine.

What is the firing order for 1987 Suzuki Samuri and which point do I start on cap?

my guess, dizzy pulled or wires removed, all at once?

1,3,4,2 (crank motor , look to see direction, many books show it wrong, so you look)
the rotor left the factor 1 way, after 20 year's 20 mechanics set it
their way. 1of 4 ways. all 4 work, on some the vac, can hits things. so...

Find TDC #1 firing, (lash loose at #1 , #1 is FRONT) then look at rotor.
    bingo #1 is THERE.
    first g o o g le hit

most pages skip this first check. even autozoned does. that.
out of factory #1 was at the clamp bolt, id not assume that.
in fact i never do, on any dizzy car made. (cept, slotted dizzy drives)
this car is gear drive and can be time wrong.

here , this post gets it right, cept the Haynes, is a bad book. IMO

one way to find TDC #1 front firing, is the wad of paper trick
stuff small wad of paper or a cotton ball (wife) in to spark hole 1.
key off , turn crank by hand CW (clock wise) see wad blow out.
this is the Compression stroke. keep turning crank cw until the Crank
    TDC mark hits 0 (firing)
the rotor brass tip , now points to #1 REAL.
if valve cover off, you do same until both valve #1 are loose, lash.
if lash is sat wrong, you burn the valves up so no excuse for
#1 valves never loose. (hint , fix that first. do the 60,000 service now)

Valve lash specs for a 900 ford tractor

If you want to do it messy. Alot of folks that use these trrractors don't mind. fire it up with the valve cover off and adjust them with it running, tighten them till the noise goes away and then loosen just till you can faintly hear it. you may need to make a caught oil so you don't run the risk of a fire as the oil ( if it's old may burn real easy) .020 exhaust .018 intake works on most lash engines cold. you haven't mentioned the year.
