Question about 1987 Ford Crown Victoria

Transmission won'y shift into higher gears

1989 crown victoria, transmission won't shift into high gears. There is no noticeable slippage when put into forward or reverse. This car belonged to my Father; he passed away on Nov 5th......I would like to get transmission running/shifting properly, especially since it was previously owned by Walter Mondale Family Member & it is in mint condition. Would it be leaking vacuum hoses? Where would I begin tracking them down? Where would I get a schametic drawing on the vacuum hoses?

It could be a bad vacuum hose or a bad solenoid. Check fluid condition and level first. A Chilton or Haynes repair guide will tell you what you need to know about placement of hoses and solenoid.

What causes a 99 ford crown victoria slip between 50 to 60 miles per hour

The clutches inside the automatic transmission are worn out. You need to have the transmission rebuilt. But first check to make sure there is enough fluid in the transmission. When was the fluid and filter last changed? A plugged filter might cause slippage too.

There a tab at the linkage you unlock it and slid the cable till it is just a little loose the snap the tab back in, drive the car and make a note when the car shifts into overdrive, it should do it at about 55 miles per hour at half throttle, if it shifts to fast tighten the cable if it stays out of overdrive loosen it

Had a similar problem. Solved it two ways first place key in the 3 position move gear to N then start and it will shift easily. Second solution check brake light fuse, it is probably blown replace it and gears will shift OK.

Pickup starts great, goes into all gears but won't move. It's like it is still in nutural.

Assuming the pickup is an automatic, check the transmission fluid. The #1 cause for transmission slippage is lack of Automatic Transmission Fluid.

If the pickup is a standard shift, the pin that connects the shift to the transmission has likely broken. You would still be able to shift from the inside but the gears won't engage. A bad clutch is also a possibility but you would have noticed a burning smell prior to the clutch giving out.

I have a 1999 Ford crown Vic. I have noticed that when the transmission shifts into high gear I get a slight vibration. It does not do it all the time, but has become more frequent. I have been told it is...

I would get the transmission drained, flushed and have them install a new transmission filter. It generally costs about 150 to get this done or you can do like i did and burn the transmission up and it can cost 1500 just for the transmission
