1993 pathfinder xe dies on occassion after the rpm guage flutters

Rpm guage goes up and down revs up to about 2 rpm and then down to almost 0 then engine dies i drive vehicle home and replace coil.
problem stops for a few days then acts up again and i put the old coil back on car runs fine agian then dies in traffic on very cold day
rpm guage bounces again
coil must be good ,could i have a bad coil wire or am i looking in the wron direction .

Might be in the alternator with the heater and ac on it is drawing alot of extra jucie from the battery in which is putting a strain on the alternator in which is causing the engine to not get enough power to the coil to fire properly

They make a connector for the sender unit and they have to usually be replaced. Watch which way it goes on since they are a little cumbersome plugging back on...I prefer soldering the new connectors on too.

My 93 nissan pathfinder runs hot, well so the gauge tells me the overflow will let coolant out but thats the only place its going. there is no signs of oil in the rad or antifreeze in the motor oil. Also...

not a whole lot can cause overheating but at first thought sounds like your water pump may not be pumping sufficiently. usually there will be a sign of seepage coming out of a weep hole in the bottom of the water pump, or it will be making a squeaking noise. could be possible that your thermostat could be clogged which would also explain the heater issue as well as the extra rpm needed to cool the engine. first thing i would check is the radiator cap seals. if that is ok i would change the thermostat. those are the two easiest and cheapest fixes if thats not it poss. will be the water pump. also the reason it could be cooling when you rev it up because if im not mistaking it has a clutch fan and the faster the rpm the faster it turns

THE CLICKING NOISE IS THE SHIFTER LOCK RELEASING, NOTHING TO DO WITH BRAKE LITES. CHECK FOR GOOD GROUNDS AT REAR LIGHT SOCKETS.

Can you not get any RPM out of it above idle, or does it rev to a certain point (say, 2400 RPM) and then refuse to go higher? If it's the latter, where the revs stop at a certain low point, check the mass airflow sensor out - on my 300ZX, a bad mass airflow sensor triggered the computer to limit RPM to 2400 to keep from damaging anything in the engine.
