Question about 2000 Hyundai Accent

2003 hynudia accent timingbelt replacement

Replaced the belt and car wont start now. timing marks on cam and crankshft pully are not clearly marked. cam has a hole on one of the spokes with a line on head behind it and the crank gear that turns the belt has a notch that lines up with a small dot on the block. just unsure of if those are the marks

    1996 Excel X3 (Australia) / Accent (international). 1.5l, manual transmission, 200000km+. The shift is getting a little notchy and I'd like to try changing the gear-oil. The 24mm drain-plug loosens easily but the 17mm filler-plug is frozen hard. I've already used about as much force as I dare, only managing to burr the head some.
    About 2cm below and offset from the stubborn filler is another bolt head: 14mm, angled slightly downward, marked '7' on my car. This one loosens easily and bleeds oil, but it's not mentioned at all in my manual. Does anyone know its purpose and what's behind it? Could it be just a level-inspection point or is it something else?
    I'm tempted to try jacking the front-end up and feeding in the specified fresh fill through this smaller hole. Convince me I'm crazy. Stop me before I kill again!

Yes those are the marks and it sounds like its not in timing

U need to re-timed the engine. Check all four marks going across the two cam pully is lined up with the engine head surface.
Then check the crank pully alignment mark the single notche align to the mark on the timing cover

Set camshaft timing


there should be marks on crank pully and cam belt pully. rotate motor until crank pully timing mark is on zero.the cam belt pully should be lined up with its own mark.number one piston should be at the top of its stroke (top dead centre TDC) and number one valves should be shut. if the cam belt mark is not alined with its own mark remove the belt realine the marks and refit the belt

timing is only set by the timing chain, the way it works is on the crank pully there is a mark that lines up with a mark on the block, then on the cam pullys they have the same (all have to be aligned at the same time with the belt) if your doing a timing belt replace the water pump and belt tensioner at the same time, reason is your already there and it should be done anyway.

How do i time my Golf 1 correctly? it consumes a lot


its tricky enough if your not sure what your doing but ill run you through it. 1. remove top rocker cover and timing belt cover. 2 make up the position of the pully on the cam shaft at the top and the drive shaft at the bottom, this marks are you fail safe incase you cant time the engine. 3 remove the timing belt and pully tentioner, note if your going this far you are as well to replace the timing belt,tentioner and water pump. 4 On the cam shaft at the top if you force them to turn you will see a small indicator mark on the shaft this mark has to line up with the other indicator mark on the housing between the cam shaft and the cam shaft pully, once they line up your top end is timed, mark up the pully incase it moves. 5 on the drive shaft pully there is also markings that have to line up but you can also feel the position of the pully as you turn it, you will feel the piston been forced up and it is timed at top dead centre on cylinder one, which means the the piston has to be at the top just before the point of returning back down, using your feeling as a guide and the markings lined up you will have timing. also mark up this pully, your new marking should be very very close to the fail safe markings you put on at the start. when you have your marking replace the timing belt with the longest distance between pully contact going on first, try not disturb your timing or your hard work will have been for nothing, make sure the tentioner on the belt is tight but not to tight to the point where you ll stretch the belt or snap it, put everything back as you found it and crank the engine, job done, best of luck. hope this helps( rate me on my answer thanks )

Set your timing mark on outer cover to the flywheel timing mark on pulley(T mark), then take the covers off and look you will clearly see marks that line up on the cam pulley to block,crank gear to block, and water pump shaft to crank (separate belt replace both, and replace water pump in high mile cars. ) These marks will all line up when you rotate the motor to top dead center on the compression stroke..

hi from uk the cambelt/timing belt comes as a kit ie timing belt and tensioner cost £50 here in uk ? it is not too difficult diy job approx 2hours the engine must 1st be set to TDC number 1 firing then at this setting the cam cog mark is a hole drilling in the web of cog and should line up at 12 oclock upwards and using a mirror look thro drill hole and you will see a vertical notch/groove behind on font engineface this is correct mark the crank cog mark lines up with aother mark on engine front face at approx 12 30 pm oclock ? if now set you slacken tensioner bolts and push t/pully away to left from belt ? then remove belt next remove complete tensioner assy after undoing bolts then fit new tensioner push t/pully to left from belt run and lock bolt/s recheck t/marks then fit new belt from c/shaft in anticlockwise rotation when fitted release tensioner bolt and allow to tension belt push t/pully onto belt and lock up tensioner bolts20=27 Nm rotate engine manually for four turns then recheck marks ? should still aligne then re assemble torque crank bolt to =140-150 Nm A LITTLE HINT ? b4 you remove the water pump belt ? slacken thefour 10 mm headed bolts (spanner size) that secure w/pump pully to pump it will be easier to halt rotation of pully if you holt belt tight by hand this pully has to come off to remove c/belt covers same for power steer belt which is also driven from the w/pump pully the power steer pump slide adjuster has a 12 mm bolt you slacken and best done with open end spanner ? after slackening the pump mounting bolts/nuts underneath pump hope you can follow this info/tips wish you good luck from uk

hi from uk to retime cambelt is as follows = the crank cog has a mark which lines up with corresponding mark on front of engine block mark is approx 12-30 o/clock this is TDC No 1 the the cam cog has a small drilled hole in one of the webs just below the cog teeth ? this hole has to be at 12-o/clock position and then using a small mirror if you look through this hole you will see a vertical notch on the front of block this is theTDC mark for cam you then fit belt anticlockwise from c/shaft to cam then round tensioner then release tensionor to tension belt and then lock it up torque both bolts 20 - 27Nm rotate engine manually 4 complete turns clockwise then recheck marks ok /re align ? then re assemble crank pully bolt torque is 140 -150 Nm may i just inform you? that your engine is what is known as interferance that is to say in event of c/belt failure there is more than likely valves to piston contact however this can also occure too if miss timed belt fitted and engine has tried to start ? a compression test on cylinders will confirm if this has happened or not ? hope this helps

Need to know timing marks when replacing timing belt on 1.6L hyundai


turn engine to TDC No1 cylinder at this point the cam cog has a hole drilling which should be at 12 o/clock position and alignes with a V notch on the cyl head as you look thro the cam drill/hole and when crank pully is at TDC the cog has a marked tooth which should align with mark on engine approx 12-30 pm position these marks are all clear to see and belt change takes around TWO AND HALF HOURS to do
