Check the fuses, and especially the glow plugs fuse.
The diesel fuel could also be contaminated with water, in which case the filter may need to be flushed.

have the battery load tested as it appears that there is a dead cell . Lights will work but when there is a hugh current flow the battery chucks it in . Check that the battery posts and terminals are shiny clean and tight.

My car jerks/ hiccups when I accelerate, and the engine shakes when I turn it on.

timing belt jumped a tooth?,causing burning smell from engine overheating?????????. Out of ignition timing causes erratic/missing/jerking and possibly die. All this " may be " a coincidence from heater core repair.

I have a Touareg TDi and it lacks power and is smoking. In addition while driving,it jerks and everytime it jerks the Rev Counter drops and rises again. After sometime it will completely cut out and not...

Do a compression check. It sounds like the valve timing. If the engine has had recent maintenance like tune ups, oil changes etc. the symptoms you describe indicate serious problems.

2001 new beetle won't start has new battery

I have a 2003 new beetle TDI. I have got error codes on my ECM that have stopped my engine from starting. I got an OBD2 reader from the auto parts store. I plugged it into the OBD2 port below the steering wheel and got the error codes. After writing them down, I cleared the codes. the car started fine. It has pulled this a couple times over three years. I carry an OBD2 reader with me so I can clear the codes and get going again. Good Luck

suspect you got a cranksensor failure, plug it into diagnostic equipment to see if you got any codes or look at actual data to see if you have a signal from it
