thanks, the aerostar belongs to my nephew and when I looked at it, evidently, the cap's top has broken off. It does not look like the diagram.

Please see the diagram at I have included a picture of the engine with the oil fill cap and dipstick labeled. To open the cap just turn it counter clockwise like your gas cap.

Oh thats unfortunate. If you manage to get the damaged cap off I would guess a new one would be under $20. In a pinch you would be able to fill the crankcase via a funnel in the dipstick tube.

Ford aerostar troubleshooting

It could be any number of things, most likely cause is you have a oil sending unit that is wore out and giving false readings. Either buy a new sending unit and change it out or hook an oil pressure tester to your engine and check the oil pressure.
I'd buy a new sensor and replace it myself, because the vehicle is 23 years old and probably the original sending unit, besides the oil sending unit has to be removed in order to check pressure with mechanical gauge anyway.

Is it modulator valve, or other?

The vac modulator only assists the transmission in knowing when to shift up.
If the engine oil pressure gauge is acting wildly, it could be the sensor or the oil pressure could really be going up and down.

HELP! Gear Oil Leak

Both the front seal and the rear gasket are fairly easy fix, But don't let anybody over torque the seal, You can add more oil, and let it sling all over the place, your car will never rust, the filler plug looks like a bolt with a square hole in it, the end of ratchet or breaker bar will fit it, 1/2 inch, you can fill it up there. Hope this helps.

Simply need to check and possibly add oil to an 86 ford areostar

You should see the dip stick on the Driver side under the hood.It will be the only black steel tube that comes up towards the hood. The oil is sometimes poured down the same tube or it will be in the drivers side valve cover..
