Usually on or near thermostat housing, but if you can't locate it, leaving rad cap off & heater on & rev engine slightly, once in a while, and wait until rad fan comes on & off 2 or 3 times & you should be good. Top up, install cap, top up bottle.

The valve is located just above where the engine and transmission seam meets. There is the metal exhaust gas tube with 2x8mm bolts and a fiber gasket. The EGR mounts to the cylinder head with 2 10mm bolts and a metal gasket. There are 2 vacuum lines that go to the control solenoid, a black plastic pod moounted under the throttle body. It clips into the TB mounting bracket, and has a 3rd vacuum supply line and 1 electrical connector.

A vacuum leak at the egr valve can cause rough idle and almost stalling condition.
A non functioning egr valve that is plugged up won't affect driveability, but NOx will be in the exhaust at normal operating temperature which may not be good for an emissions test if they test for that in your area.
Good luck on this repair.
