the entire assembly, do I need to take off the side panel other things?

  • kirsten1969 Feb 14, 2009

Where do I get the "Haynes manual"? Recommend a place to get the part? My shop wants to charge me $440 to replace this thing. That seems totally absurd. I don't know the first thing about how to do this, but I can't believe it's worth $440 to have somebody else do it.
    Help!

Do you wish to replace the bulb or the entire plastic headlight assembly?

  • Bruce Nguyen Nov 19, 2016

I have this vehicle and I have just done this. remove the splash shield, remove front plastic fender and top cover which sits on top of the fender. you now have access to the headlight assembly. 3 10mm bolts and disconnect the wiring for the bulbs. there is a metal bracket which also attachs to the headlight using the same 2 bolts, it is to hold the plastic front fender up, the bolts go through that bracket and through the headlight and into the corners of the metal bumper bar.

Yes, it is very involved. According to the Haynes manual you will have to first remove the radiator cover, the radiator grill, the inner fender splash shield pins (attached to the splash shield and front bumper cover), the front bumper cover, and finally the headlight housing. A DIYer can do this, but I recommend that you spend the $15 and get the Haynes manual because the pictures alone are worth it. Oh, and get a trim panel removal tool as well (cheap).

Change headlight

The headlights are like the brakelights you have to turn the socket out of the headlight assembley. be careful not to tough the light bulb with your bare hand. The oils on your skin will make the light burn out faster.

Need to replace passenger side headlight on a 2002 Honda civic lx

I have not done this yet but I have seen a DIY on hondacivicforums.com. From what i hear to remove the headlight assembly you have to remove the front bumper to get to screws that hold the headlight assembly on.

Hope it helps.

Removing old serpentine belt

Hi alin,

No prybar necessary.
  • Get a 14mm or 9/16" socket and a long handled ratchet or breaker bar.
  • Get the belt around all the pulleys except the A/C compressor or Alternator.
  • The tensioner pulley is on a spring loaded arm. Get your socket on the center nut of this pulley.
  • Slowly pull the ratchet toward the center of the engine. The pulley will pivot on the arm allowing you to get the belt on the final pulley.
  • Slowly release the tension.
  • You're done
