Question about Mazda 323

2000 Mazda Protege 1.6L big oil leak passanger side. No oil in timing belt area. All over firewall & steering rack. What is leaking?

I have a lagre oil leak on my 2000 Protege 1.6L engine. Started suddenly. Had Oil pan gasket replaced, Crankshaft seal replaced, Valve cover replaced. Inside of timing belt area dry but drive belts got soaked. Sprays passanger side firewall. Some oil where head meets block on wheel well side. Most oil on block surfaces. Uses 1 Qt every 120 Miles more when highway driving. Mechanic cannot track down leak with dye; too much oil leaking; says oil is under preasure. Could it be the oil pump to block seal or head gasket?

The problem ended up being the cam seal had hardened and leaking. There is a ledge where the head and block meet the thickness of the head gasket that allows the oil to flow out of the timing belt area. Unfortunately after changing the head gasket the thurst bearing failed welding the crankshaft to the #4 main bearing cap. The engine had 242K miles on it. Am in the process of installing a used engine. Thank to all that responded. Next time i will take it to a garage that knows Mazdas

Probably gaskets are not sealed properly you have to redo it or try and cleaned it remove all the oil that sorrounds the engine and try to seal with a high temp silicon

You must completely clean the engine of all oil and dirt with a pressure washer and then look for the leak, no other way.

2000 mazda protege water leak under passenger side. A/C not used. Can't see any water in engine compartment or on firewall. Floor carpet is dry. Just drips from big bolts on frame under pass. side.

Possible the hot water line to the heater that has leaked from the water jacket or the connection at the heater pipe. You must be able to use a good observation lamp to look into this section so that the joint from where the leaks appears is located. Possible that the gland or the connector can be tightened to stop the leak.

2000 Mazda Protege SE Oil Leak . Have not had a oil change recently. I parked the car at office. After an hour I saw lots of oil appearing centre of engine

Check for broken gaskets on the bottom and the top of the engine. Make sure your oil filter is not broken, make sure the drain plug is in and secure, also make sure your oil pump is working correctly and not leaking oil. Its all about looking for the leak, just inspect the engine REALLY well.

Lots of oil leaking how many seals are there that could leak and is it a big job to fix. the leak appears to be on the back drivers side of the engine, it is a 1999 mazda protege 4 cylinder

you need to clean the engine off and fill it with oil,put your car on a hoist to find the oil leak when it starts so it doesn't run to other places and you think its leaking there.

'94 Mazda MX-6 leaking antifreeze from passanger side engine

Don't drive while it is over heating, cast aluminum doesn't like heat and will warp. Should take it to a repair shop if your not sure what is wrong with your vehicle. Your problem sound like the water pump is shot you may have all ready caused major damage if you have drove your vehicle for a while.
