Question about 1986 Mercury Marquis

I have a 86 Mercury Marquis that I am working on helping someone out and I would like to know how the ignition module is changed.......it won't start.....i have replaced battery, ignition coil, cap and rotor, coil wire, and pcv.....car has been running fine just wouldn't start one morning.....I am not a ford guy....gm man

If the module is on the side of the distributer it takes a wrench made just for ford modules to remove 2 screws, if you need to replace the pickup in the dist. you have to remove the dist. out of the engine pull the gear off and pull the shaft out of the dist.

Since you have replaced some of the ignition parts, have you checked fuel pressure and the fuel pump relay ?
Do you know what you are loosing when the engine dies ?

It is mounted in the rear, here is a picture of the part. Autozone can test your Ignition Modules be test yours

93 won t start, clicking when i try to start... it started after sitting for a few days than now it won t don t know if its my starter battery or alternator


I would change all three. alittle expensive, but on this old of a vehicle I would not waste time and trouble. if this doesnt work then maybe some ignition problems. But i would guess that battery, starter, alternator, should do the trick

Yes trunk, drivers side.It is black box with a red button on top. It should be behind a little door. That is marked.

Ignition Module


try a salvage yard and get you the whole steering column and take it along with your key from your old one to a locksmith and have it rekeyed to fit your key
