First of course is to look for leaks second, get the emissions and recirculation canister and related stuff looked careful here because this could ultimately explode in the garage..park it outide if nessecary...and dont overfill the cars' tank,, too many people do this and get fuel inside all the overflow tubes..not a good thing.. fill until the hose turns off once and stop....good luck...

SOURCE: Smell of gas when operating vehicle. No overt leak noted.

This could be any number of issues, you could have a leak in your fuel tank or lines, or more likely in that vehicle, a leak in your injector rails or the lines that feed the injector pump

SOURCE: when i park my mazda rx8 in my garage i can smell

Check for loose clamps on the fuel lines leading out of the fuel tank. Don't be afraid to stick your hands where you can't see. You might be able to find a leak. Or your fuel tank is releasing pressure from the gas cap.

When driving i can smell gas in my 2000 lexus es300

possibly your O rings which isolates fuel injectors from engine block are getting old and letting gasoline go out. it is very dangerous since it can cause fire. do not drive.

another cause is broken loose or cracked fuel lines. this is equally dangerous since it is under hood close to hot exhaust manifold.

if smell is from exhaust manifold, which means not the smeel of gasoline but exhaust fumes, this can be caused by broken exhaust manifold or a crack on it or problematic exhaust manifold gasket.

When I start my car, there is a very strong smell of exhaust fumes or maybe even gasoline in the car. It seems to lessen over time or maybe my sense of smell just adjusts to the smell. Any help with what...

the vehicle may need a service to ensure all fuel is being burned on ignition.
the exhaust may be broken under the car and exhaust fumes are being released.

I hope this was useful.

A strong gasoline smell but no appearent leak, what can be the cause?

fuel systems have a vent or a purge solinoid which will purge the fumes back to the tank which can in some cases send excess fumes to the vent
check to make sure you have a good gas cap and the perge is working

I detect a strong gasoline smell coming from under the hood. And when starting it slightly sound like a carburator receiving alot air and a little gas. Neither of these issues appear not to affect the cars...

Fuel economy is the same, it doesn't seem to be using more fuel? You need to have this checked out asap. Gas fumes are highly explosive, and a slight spark can set it off. Do not park the car inside a garage (fumes can build up, and just turning on a light switch in the garage can trigger an explosion). You may have a leak at an o-ring on one of the injectors, or somewhere along the fuel line. Gasoline evaporates rather quickly, so it may be a little difficult to locate. So, I agree, it may be the injectors (o-rings?), but not the lifters. Be careful, let me know what you find.
