Replace this pipe(hose) fill the system and check for other leakages, sounds like this car was sitting around for a while...repost please..

You may have a leaking engine head gasket or a clogged radiator. Do not drive this until the problem is repaired or you will do serious damage to the engine.

I have 96 Caprice Classic...muffler has begun making quite a throaty rumble...I took to Monro Muffler...they said I need to replace from Manifold all the way to back....they want some $600. Anybody have...


I can't see your exhaust system, but I do recommend that you have them show you the "why" of it. Generally the front pipe and the cat last a long time and generally don't need to be replaced very often. If the flanges are rusted and have failed there are "wrap around" replacements that can be used without pipe replacement. Most common is to change everything from the cat back. As I said, have them actually show you what is wrong...or take it to another shop and without telling them the original findings, have them look at it!!! Since there is very little involved except a visual inspection, most shops will not charge or will charge very little for this.

The pipe leading to the muffler snapped in half due to rust. Is this a "diy" project or is it best to take it in to my mechanic?


it is best to take it to the muffler shops , it is a under the car project and is very messy , lots of falling rust stuck (rusted together ) parts and it is almost impossible to refit the new pipes and there could be alterations to the hangers . save yourself a headache the labor on replacing a exhaust system is not that much your going to have close to the same cost doing it yourself .

Hexhaust manifold gasket


most replacements of exhaust manifold gasket are due to leaks. first you have to loosen the exhaust pipe close to the manifold to gain access to the manifold. loosen the manifold bolts and replace the gasket. unfortunately, most times you'll discover that the manifold bolts are rusted...that might make the job a bit more tedious and technical. in that case, the manifold will be accessed from up after bringing down the engine

My car makes a rattling sound under the car most notably when im moving and i rev the engine hard and put it into gear. It has gotten worse over time, i think it might have something to do with muffler...

Yep, there's a good chance some part of the exhaust system has come loose and is rattling at certain RPM's. Start fault-tracing by checking if any part of the exhaust seems loose to come in contact with anything, or if there's any loose clamps or similar parts hanging onto it. Another quite common reason for rattle is that some part of the exhaust manifold, such as a bolt or hose/pipe has loosened (often due to rust and/or corrosion).
Another possibility is that it's somehow related to the transmission (since you mention putting it into gear). If so that would be another subject.

Noise under hood


Its likely your catalytic converter's heat shield that has come loose due to rust. Raise your car, and thread two or three large pipe clamps (the screw type) together. Wrap this assembly around the catalytic converter and tighten down. Hope this helps. Bilal Hassan Clarksville, MD

Windshield wiper liquid pipe lickage


thats a small repair, you could probably diy, check your local junk yards for the fluid tank assembly, probably around 30 bucks and swap them out good luck and rate me

The gear slides nicely in reverse but it sticks on the reverse and won't come out


The lickage may just need to be adjusted. Have a mechanic take a look, if that is what it is. It will be a cheap fix.

Dear Customer,

As you said above your engine oil is goin lickage so find out any crack or pinhole on pipeline for collent oil rails.

replace oil pipies weld any crack found on transmision case thna your gear will work batter.
