Follow the top radiator hose to th engine and youll find a clamp there . unhool the hose and remove the 2 bolts that hold the housing and pull the old thermostat and put the new one in make sure you get a new gasket with it and that youclean all the old gasket material off the housing so it will seat right and not have any leaks

Have a 2002 cavalier Z24 and the cooling fan will not go on. Have a hard code on the engine saying Cooling Fan 1 Control Circuit. checked all the fuses and the relay, all are fine. what might the problem...

there are two coolant temp sensors on this car one controls the fans and one controls the temp guage in the car. one is located near the thermostat housing and the other is usually located in the block. the one near the thermostat housing usually controls the fans. also try to jumper the fan and make sure the fan is working.

Most vehicles use a coolant temperature sensor which is located near the thermostat directly connected into the coolant line, or near the thermostat housing, there are relays for the cooling fan which is usually located in the power distribution box under the hood.
