Parts stores (and walmart) sell a spray can of MAF cleaner. Use that to clean the sensor. Be careful, it is a delicate sensor.

SOURCE: i need to clean the mass air flow sensor on my xg300

CRC makes two products that could be applicable: "Mass Air Flow Sensor Cleaner" and "Electronic Cleaner"

Be careful when removing the sensor and when spraying the piece. Allow it to dry (shouldn't take long at all) and reinstall the sensor. Have a friend drop off a can of the cleaner, which will probably cost about $6-8 per can.

SOURCE: Cleaning the Mass Air Flow Sensor

i will try to help. 171/174 indicates lean condition in engine. the mass air flow sensor is located in the rubber tube going to throttlebody. you can try to clean it. using mild carb cleaner safe for sensors, remove sensor from tube. spray clean the tiny wires located in the cylinder. do not touch them, they are very delicate. these engines are also notorious for leaking intake gaskets and faulty pcv valves. these will all set these 2 codes. feel free with anymore questions.

SOURCE: mass air flow sensor bad on 2002 monte carlo ss

It's should be a simple remove and replace. Just make sure the engine is off. Also do not touch any of the filament wires on the sensor, just the plastic housing. Also after you install it drive the car for a little while (city speeds, cruising speeds and inbetween). That way the computer will be able to readjust its setting since it is a new sensor.

SOURCE: location of mass air flow sensor

The sensor is mounted on the throttle body between the air cleaner assembly and the air cleaner outlet tube.

My 1998 volvo s70 has a new fuel pump and is still spuddering and dying when ideling like it is having trouble getting gas. Any suggestions?

If the fuel pump is new, then the problem may not be the pump. It could be the Airflow sensor, get an OBD(on board diagnostcs) check and if its the Mass Air Flow Sensor (MAF) it will read so or other electronic sensors and control. These are usually not repairable, you have to buy a new one.

My 1998 Volvo S70 is cutting off....I have had it for 6months and it is at a mileage of abot 168K....not sure of service records to know when last tune up was done. My fluids are normal and it is not...

it could be a couple of things going on, the fuel filter may need to be changed, plug wires may need changing, the mass air fuel sensor may need cleaning or replaced. I would go with a tune up: change spark wires, distributor cap and rotor, chang fuel filter and air filter. doing the latter may cure your problem

My 1998 volvo s 70 keeps stalling on the high way . loses power.

Hi Joe, first I have never worked on a volvo however, I would suggest you have them check the CPS (cam positioning sensor) and the CSS (crankshaft sensor) ford and chrysler have the exact problem and these sensors dont throw codes. I hope this will help you my friend good luck and let me know how you make out, take care.
