Looking for shift cables pontiac grand am...

Just wondering where I can look to get some good shift cables for my standard 97 Pontiac Grand Am? Already checked local junk yards with no such luck, and dont want to pay the 150$ for the ones from the dealer.

More or less, is there any OTHER model of car with the SAME shift cable that I could also look for? No one has them for 97 grand am, but if say, a chevy 96 used the same cable, I can get those for a dime a dozen!

The dealer parts dept can tell u what other GM cars the part fits, also a cross over book is availiable from a good wrecking yard, or go on the internet and do a used part search.

THIS IS PRETTY MUCH A DEALER ITEM ONLY. YOU WILL HAVE TO GET THE CABLE FROM A GM DEALER. SORRY.

I doubt a cable is involved. It sounds like the pedal is not coming up far enough to disengage the switch.

Removed battery cables to reset check engine light, now cooling fans and ac comp. will not work. it is on a 97 pontiac grand prix 3.8 v6

There are fusable links that are inline to the battery positive cable. Make sure you have good connections or an open connection in the feed wire. It may have been broken upon installation. Question.,.did you install the negative cable first before the positive cable? If so it can short out a fusable link

Check the transmission fluid. Also place a paper towel and drop a fewdrops of fluid.if the fluid is good it will spread and will be a red or brownish red color. if it is dark and hardly spreads, then change the fluid. But it could be a temp sensor or shifting solenoid also. check the filter also by removing the pan if the other solutions don't work.
