The 2 motor mounts that go to the radiator support hold the
engine verticle,if you pull the bolts that hold the mounts to the
engine you will be able to "roll" the engine foreward, giving you
the room to get at the rear.

How to change and replace valve cover gaskets in a 2004 Chrysler Sebring Convertible 2.7L DOHC V6

You first have to remove the ignition coils or plug wires and then remove the bolts holding the cover to the cylinder head. Discard old gasket. Clean gasket channel of any oil and install new gasket to cover taking care during assembly not to disturb gasket when placing cover back on cylinder head. The rear gasket is much harder to change as the upper plenum must be removed to access this cover. You should have some knowledge of engines if you are going to atempt this repair on your own

Valve cover gasket, rear main seal, and strange

all valve covers leak a little when they get old, this is not a major problem may just need new gasket, the main seals are notorious for leaking..will need to have transmission off to replace. strange idling could mean fuel injectors are dirty... purchase a can of Sea Foam @ Autozone, pour in 1/2 can to half tank of gas drive around for half hour see if it wont clear up the whole fuel system..if that didn't fix the idle problem, then it could be dirty air filter or plugged up erg valve or vacuum leak..check all hoses for cracks and security. One more thing, if its been awhile since the plugs have been changed i'd look into that too! hopethis helps!

What needs to come off the engine too replace the valve cover gasket on the rt side or rear side (depends on how you are looking at it) of the engine. The engine is a 3.1 liter.Thank you in advance,Scott

I would recommend changing both gaskets. You must remove anything that is on top, hoses, wires ect, BUT MARK everything and make a diagram of what you took off, and also take some good pictures.
Make sure you get all the old gasket material off of the engine, and valve covers, clean the inside of the valve cover really well with solvent, and use a very small amount of permatex orange high temp silicone on both sides of the gasket, let it set up for about 10 min.
DO not over tighten valve cover bolts.
Let me know how it goes

Slite oil leak from rear valve cover gasket per dealer $650.00

Hello. Let me try to assist you the best I can, with the hope of achieving a FixYa rating from you for my assistance.

Changing the rear valve cover gasket on your vehicle would be not considered a "real" big job, but IS a time-consuming job.
In order to remove the rear cover, you first have to remove the intake plenum. If you do not remove the plenum, you can't get to the valve cover bolts that are under the plenum. After the plenum is off, the valve cover is easy to access. You will also need to replace the intake plenum gasket, if you do the job yourself.

I hope this information has satisfied your question.
Thanks for choosing FixYa for assistance!
