Check to be sure the tensioner pulley is still straight,
if the bushing where it pivots wears out the pulley will tilt and
make the belt run off to one side.It takes very little play to make noise.Have seen alot of these that the power steering pulley
or pump has been changed and the pulley is pressed on too far
only takes like 1/16 of an inch to make noise.

It could be a pulley, sometimes a worn belt will do that. Check the idler pulley, tensioner pulley, and alternator pulley, then check all the rest. If an alternator bearing is going bad, it may leave you stranded someday.

SOURCE: how do I release the belt tension pully to replace serpentine belt

You can run down to your local auto parts store and buy a serp belt tool. Or you can take a 3/8 drive ratchet, locate the 3/8 square hole in your tensioner and put the ratchet in the hole. For more leverage I put a deep socket over the ratchet handle and put a long 3/8 extention in the deep socket. This will provide ample leverage and will save buying more tools you do not need. Simply move the tensioner to the direction that takes pressure off of the belt.

SOURCE: Replaced Serpantine belt and now

Your tensioner pulley is either not mounted correctly, or is worn out...odd that it waited until you changed the serpentine belt...The tensioner pulley has a square on the back side that must fit into the correct slot on your block...I'll bet you can fix this...:)

COULD BE A BAD BEARING IN THE IDLER PULLY OR THE TENSIONER ON THE TIMING BELT OR THE SERPENTINE BELT. IF ITS A SQUEEL IT MAY BE SOME COOLANT GOT ON THE SERPENTINE BELT. TRY TO WASH THE BELT WITH WATER AND LET DRY COMPLETELY. IF NOISE REMAINS RETURN TO THE SHOP THAT DID THE WORK.

The serpentine belt is falling off durning wet weather

Hi Brenda !
I am sorry to hear about your problem with your 99 voyagers serpentine belt falling off in wet weather !
I am suggesting that the harmonic ballancer is at fault.
The harmonic ballancer is the pully that is on the engines output shaft on the front of the engine (the transmission is on the back side of the engine).
I am assuming that the rubber bushing that holds the outer ring with the serpentine belt pully on it has detatched and is causing a misallignment of the pully to the belt , causing the belt to glide off.
I am unsure how this relates to wet weather though...

Inspect the pully by turning the vehicle OFF and looking in the wheel well behind the tire. There is a plastic shield there to keep the water durring wet weather from spraying on the belt and accesories... look and see if the plastic has been damaged (possibly a round 'rub thru' where the harmonic ballancer pully rubbed it ?).

The pully on the compressor is bad can i just leave off the compressor and bypass it with a different size belt

Yes. there are basically three ways:

1. Put in a new a/c compressor.

2. Try a smaller serpentine belt. If this model came also w/o a/c, that serpentine belt should work fine. If all Santa Fes came with a/c then like you were saying try a smaller belt. You might have to try different smaller belt sizes(as far as I know) until you really get it right, which is not easy.

3. See if they make an a/c compressor delete pully for your particular model. This is basically just a single standalone pully (dummy pully). Aftermarket companies do not make them for all models, but if they make it for yours, you can use the same serpentine belt w/o a compressor. The internet is the best place to check.

Misalignment of the belt, incorrect belt, worn or loose tensioner, Too tight of an adjustment (many service centers do this on purpose so when the belt breaks in it becomes properly adjusted, I do not believe in this philosophy), The belt is actually one long belt called a serpentine belt.....
