Unless you have an account for you will have to call the Chrysler dealer and get the MFG part number for the rack and pinion, then cross reference that to the part number of the new part you bought through the auto parts store. The reason is that different parts suppliers put their own part numbers on the parts. They do not use the mfg number.

SOURCE: rack and pinion or steering kit

your vehicle has a transverse mounted engine and most newer vehicls have rack and pinion steering versus a shaft going to a gear box with a drag link and sway bar type steering system. most full size suvs have the gear box set up. some suvs like dodge durango have both a gear box and a rack and pinion. your vehicle has only the rack and pinion

it is sort of a strange deal but you have to remove the cowl and the wiper assembly and access it through there. You can get the step by step instructions from autozone

hi you should replace the whole rack and pinion, as if any other part has damage, this will end up damaging the new parts and you will be back to stage one, i do not think it would be cost affective as well as the parts will possibly cost just as much as a new rack, also you would have labour charges to..hope this helps

I have a 1999 dodge intrepid, its hard to turn left but it turn rights just fine, what is the problem?

The rack and pinion is bad,the teflon on the cylinder walls of the rack wear off,and it looses pressure,You can try lucas power steering additive ,and it might just fix the problem,if not, replace the rack and pinion to repair the problem.

If the car is fairly new, why would there be "potential" air in the rack and pinion? Stationary steering is not harmful to the steering system, but it does wear out the treads on tire.

Tie rods

I did this on a 2002 Intrepid, and found that it wasn't too complicated. I replaced the bushings only, rather than the tie rod end. You can get bushing replacement kits where the bushing is in two pieces and doesn't have to be pressed in. Before starting, turn the steering all the way to the right, then remove the intake air ducting. The rack and pinion assembly should be easily accessible now. BE SURE AND REPLACE ONLY ONE TIE ROD BUSHING AT A TIME. If you take both bolts out at the same time, you may have a very hard time getting all the sleeves, etc. aligned in the steering unit so you can get the bolt back in the proper hole.
