Question about 2001 Dodge Stratus

1 Answer

Turn signal won't turn off or switch directions

The left turn signal on my car keeps blinking. If I turn it to off, it continues to blink and the same if I try to turn on the right turn signal, the left still blinks. If I turn on the emergency flashers, then both signals will flash. Any clue to what my problem is?

How do you get the old switch out? I have it exposed without an obvious way to remove it. Does the steering wheel have to come off?

Alpha Romeo 156 My Left hand indicator light stays on continually, does not flash. and when I turn the hazard light switch on both indicators continually glow.

Generally speaking, symptoms of a bad or failing turn signal bulb are usually the culprit...in your case, either it's the front left or rear bulb. Varies for different vehicle makes...common signs include:
  1. turn signal light staying on solid
  2. or blinking very fast
  3. or either sides of the bulbs stop blinking altogether.
To test this, make sure you reconnect everything you disconnected.
Turn the left signal light on; go to the front of the vehicle, is the turn signal bulb illuminated? If it lights up, even though it is not blinking obviously the bulb is okay. If it doesn't, replace it- problem solved. You'll do the same procedure for the rear turn signal Is that lit up? If not replace the bulb and the problem is solved.
Another common failure is when the turn signal blinks really fast, same procedure as mentioned above.
If both bulbs for the left side and right side illuminate but don't blink, the problem is in the steering column turn signal switch.
If the left or right side blinkers don't work properly at all...then check the integrated hazard warning/turn signal flasher relay- that may be defective; again, that's usually the case if both sides of the signal light don't work.
If you are blowing any fuses related to the flasher system, you have an electrical overload in the turn signal circuitry.

What would cause the turn signal to blink continuously?? The only time the left one stops blinking is when you use the right signal??

Directional keeps blinking

I would have to conclude that the turn signal switch is faulty or some wires may be melted together near the area that keep the directional side powered up.I am sure your turn signal lever is going back to the stop position?

Dont have signal

Click the turn signal switch to either the right or left and get out and check if the BULB comes on but doesn't blink. Try both directions. Does the arrow for that direction also come on, on the dashboard instruments and stays on but not blink? That is a built in indicator that a filament has burned out in one of the bulbs. Try replacing the bulbs. Could also be the fuse for that circuit. Check fuse panel for that circuit. Could also be the turn signal relay. Replace with newer style relay.
