Timberjack eaton how to check to see if the alternator works

I would like to know if I can put a curcuit tester on it to tell if it is okay or what I would have to do. It doesn't charge the batterie and we have been charging it to get it started. It seems to hold power in the batterie so I don't think it has a power drain. It is an old relic of a thing but I thought I would take the chance on you answering my question. thanks

not sure what the issue is as a motor, unless you are running all your accesories should run off the battery for abit.

quick test. put a completely charged battery in the vehicle. start it up.... unhook the battery.... if it dies.... alternator.... if it keeps running battery.

SOURCE: 2005 Ford Expedition, Battery drained, charging

The "Charging Sytem" includes the battery, the alternator, the voltage regulator and all related connecting wires and cables. If the charging system was tested and it tested "good" then all of these components are working properly.
If your charging system is good and you continue to have a dead battery, then you probably have an "Ignition-Off draw". This means that something is staying on after the ignition is shut off. This could be interior lamps not shutting off due to a bad door switch, or the headlamps being left on, or some other electrical component in the vehicle that is malfunctioning. If this is the case, then you need to have your vehicle checked by a competent Service Technician who, using the proper equipment and techniques, can locate and repair the source of the problem.

Reversing light not working have changed bulb no good how do i identify fuse nothing marked as such in box

the best way is to, pull 0ne fuse out at a time. then replace, until you find a blown one, then you will know witch fuse it is. have a good day ! or use a curcuit tester to tell.

1996 tercel, charge the battery it will start then it will die after battery goes dead i put a new alternator on it replaced the charging system fuses and checked the wires i didn't replace the battery...

Check if the alternator output is 13 volts to 14 volts or when the engine runs try to disconnect the negative (- ) terminal from the battery, if it still runs your alternator is okay. Just to check if that new alternator works.
If the procedure that I have told you is working, the battery must be brought to the nearest battery center, they have a load tester that will definintely assess the battery's condition if it really good or needs to be replace.

Hope that charge up the problem!

Thanks for using Fixya!

Ok yes i do know this but when i looked under the dash at the fuse box i could not find the one that said power windows and when i looked under the hood i located the relays and it did not have a cover...

pull them one at a time and see if any are blown.sometimes they dont have a fuse they have curcuit breaker cant tell if they are blown or not unless you have a mightbe a blownn window motor.

Check battery light stays on even though the voltage at the battery is 12.90 with engine off and 14.60 at idle ?

Your alternator is putting out good voltage, so internal voltage regulator is working, but what's happening the Diode is what going bad, the alternator put's out ac voltage, and the Diode turn it to dc voltage, could mess up your battery and elec. system, the Diode are like a one way valve, have it checked with a alternator, battery, starter tester, most auto parts will do this for free, if Diode's are bad it will show up in there tester.

Have replaced alternator and battery as they both went bad. The new alternator is putting out 14 volts when tested. When in the car and the air and lights are on it drops below 12v. Put in two new...

i suggest that you drive it to an auto parts store that checks your charging system for free, advanced auto auto zone etc.etc.,there testers give the most acurate readings .as you turn on a/c light the voltage will drop from 14 from my limited knowledge on electical i think at an idle its okay as long as the voltage stays above 9.6 while under load for 15 seconds .but those guys there know the right stuff

Just replaced the alternator on my 2004 Lincoln Navagator everthing is working fine but the heat and air controls for the seats. Any suggestions? Checked the fuse and are ok.

you may have shorted them out if you did not disconnect the battery when replacing the alternator did you check the fuses under the hood as well as the ones in the car? get a 12volt tester and see if you have power coming to the seats and if you don't there could be an open curcuit somewhere open the hood and make sure everything is Ok and that there is no plugs to the fuse box off under the hood

Air ride suspension is not getting current to the compresser

I would suggest a salvage yard and replace the bag I would also check the compresser and get a 12volt tester and test all the curcuits because if it burned out a fuse you may have an opened curcuit somewhere
