In the old times, the water pumps could be rebuilt with new bushings and seals. But that was long ago and you would be lucky to find any kits today.
If your vehicle is not leaking at the water pump, the newer vehicles use Electric cooling fans to help the water pump keep the heat down. If there is no leak or rattle in the water pump, your problem may be in the Electric cooling fans.
These fans are Temperature controlled, have fuses, and Relays and everything must work for the fans to spin.
If your water pump leaks, it must be replaced with a different pump. There are CD's on the procedure and some "How to" books at major autoparts stores. Many parts are Aluminum, so do not reef when tightening the bolts. Also check the length of each removed bolt so that the lengths are not mixed. You can destroy an engine block by installing the wrong bolt in the wrong place.
