SOURCE: Used 1990 Buick Riv trans slps in & outta gear; restart to engage

the only other thing i can think of that would cause this problem is the valve body inside the transmission is leaking and/or cracked. I have seen this several times before- it will shift "wierd" and slip also, normally with no pattern whatsoever.
A valve body is not that expensive to change, but I sugest you have it looked at first..

03 kawasaki vn800. Shifts fine, but while IN second as I throttle up it jerks. More throttle, more frequent jerking. Only happens in second. No loss of power, nothing in other gears. Need it fixed!

Hi Adam:
If you eliminate engine issues then it becomes transmission.
I would start by changing the spark plugs and draining/flushing the fuel system. Run some carb/injector cleaner additive.
If there is ANY mechanical noise associated with the problem then you may have an issue with gear engagement dogs in the transmission.
Hope this helps.

1989 Chevy cavalier Z24 transmission

run fault codes and look for TCM module and or wiring insulation deteriation . Additives such as what you have added are not a good idea as they mask real problems and do not do much to help the transmission work better. I would have the system flushed out with an oil change and then have a pressure test done to determine exactly where the problem is . What to describe is a valve body problem from a build up on the parts not allowing smooth operation of the valves.

Sluggish Transmission when cold

You need to change the transmission fluid and filter as soon as possible. Being sluggish when cold is a sign of a very clogged up filter.
