This could be crankshaft sensor. If it is, yes it will stop it from starting.

I am from across the pond but the desciption sounds acurate. Crank sensor over here picks up a signal from the engines crankshaft, which tells the engines computer the position and speed of the engine as it cranks. The computer the decyphers this, and sparks the plugs at the correct time and sequence, starting the engine.

So would say its a very close match.

The sensor is located either at the front of the engine, picking up from the fanbelt pulley, or at the back of the engine, picking up off the flywheel. Usually 2 or 3 wires. Hope this helps

I have replaced the camshaft sensor, Crankshaft sencor, computer, crankshaft pully, and new spark plugs on my 1999 Mitsubishi Eclipse and it still won't start, what could it be?

Engine needs spark, fuel and air to run. I assume the starter is turning the engine over. Have you verified you have spark at the plugs? Have you verified you have fuel pressure? Can you hear the fuel pump when you first turn the ignition key? If, yes to those, check the timing belt settings to make sure something hasn't caused the timing to change.

I have a 1999 malibu it start and run for short time but them stop.if i started again them it dosent have any signal at the spark plug. it have been 2 days that this is goin up this mornig i started and...

map sensor control fuel delivery and ignition timing.the map sensor is your load sensor when engine closed throttle high vacuum wide open throttle low vacuum.need more fuel and spark.when your engine at wide open throttle. low vacuum.cause electrical volts to increase to 5 volts in which pcm will increase fuel pressure and spark.the map sensor does control spark also.replace map sensor erase code and see what happens.

Won't accelerate faster than 55mph. Loses pwr..

When you losing speed, do you lose RPM? This is important. 1- If you don't lose RPM then you have a problem with your torque converter. 2- If you lose RPM then you have a problem with fuel air mixture and this is controlled by ECM. Usually ECM is not a problem, but the problem is coming from other sensors contributing fuel: air mixture control like Air mass flow control ans Oxygen Sensor besides the throttle body valve is gummed up and need a through clean. So try to address the last one first then follow in reverse order if the case is in # 2. Good luck.

1999 Pathfinder shuts off while running.

It could be one or all of 4 sensors. the MAF, the MAP or the idle position sensor or dirty fuel injectors. the fuel injectors can be cleaned with an over the counter fuel injector cleaner bottle that you pour in your tank.If these do not fix it, it will be the EGR valve or a vacuum leak to the EGR. Check the fuel injectors first by buying the cleaning product. then check for vacuum leaks around the Fuel injector housing. Buying some starting fluid and spraying it over the small hoses while the car is running will make the engine stall when the fumes from the starting fluid get into the system. then have it scanned again to more or less tell which sensor it is. it could very well work with the fuel injector cleaner.
